I have a 15 yr old son and he does our driveway and sidewalk as part of his allowance. When we had an elderly neighbor, he did theirs for free. Depends on how you rear your children.

During the snowmageddon of 2009 there were people in the neighborhood going from house to house to clear the paths for the more elderly residents (this was Bethesda)

ABSOLUTELY!!! Illegals have already taken away most jobs teens used to work, keep minimum wages low, put increased pressure on social services and schools and keep our legal citizens unemployed. Why would I enable a federal law breaker? Why would I deny a legal citizen an opportunity for income to help an illegal immigrant. I can't even believe you asked the question. There are people in need right here in the US. It is not our job to fix every other country and I am certainly sick of my taxes going towards 12+ million illegals who think they deserve our help over others trying legally to become US citizens.



Frankly I'd be happy to see the people in our neighborhood pay ANYONE to shovel their sidewalks if they don't have the time or are too lazy to do it themselves. It would be an improvement over having to walk in the street for fear of falling and breaking a leg.

The exception I would make is for people who are unable to do it, because of age or other physical restrictions. There I think a good neighbor policy ought to be in effect and people should step in and help them out. Too many able-bodied teens in our neighborhood seem not to know how to use a shovel.

Thanks to the sensationalist 24 hour news media , so many people's perceptions when it comes to crime rates, particularly for crimes involving kids, are completely divorced from reality.


Thank you. I love to see that I'm not the only one who is always pointing out this fallacy, particularly when it comes to child abductions, etc. We just hear about it now--abduction in Oregon? Amber Alert in VA. (not a bad thing, but people need to understand this).

You mean illegal immigrants that do not speak English? Yes, we had 4 different ones come with trucks knocking on our door between 7:45am to 9am. They kept knocking and pushing the door bell. The dog was barking, the baby woke up crying.

I am NOT a fan of door solicitations, especially from grown men. I would gladly give $20 for a teen that sent an email but I would never throw a dime at the "grown men."


I agree so much. Sometimes they won't stop and want to argue. I can't believe that anyone thinks this work should be done for free or is bothered that the parents use the neighborhood social media to spread the word. I don't know many of the families with teens that age so I'm glad to know they are willing.
