Seems to me if someone posts that they hate white people and then go and kills a random white person for no reason, that is a hate crime. If someone posted they hated gay people or black people, and then went and killed a random gay guy or African-American woman for the thrill of it, that would constitute a hate crime, no? Just wondering cause it seems like we should be outraged by hate crimes on the whole. And even white males can be subject of that but no one wants to talk about it. Why?

The runner did not assault the kids. Martin assaulted Z.
after everything you said about Zimmerman you can hardly find proof of a racial motive without being a complete hypocrite.

Barely any media coverage? I saw it this morning on at least one of my usual news sites (Fox, CNN, MSNBC). I'd say that's fairly mainstream. I don't exactly spend my days with my ears pressed to the fringes of the internet looking for under reported news.
Of course it is a hate crime. Haters gonna hate. Assholes and idiots have all kinds of bizarre and terrible motives for the awful things they do. So we have a racist black kid here.... alert the media? Really? What difference does it make to the dead guy or the rest of us if the motive was racial hate? Does it make you feel better to know that black people can commit hate crimes too?

Obama has been silent.
And other country's presidents and diplomats were on the news saying what on Day 1 (as they are now)?
No need for excuses or distractions. Looks petty.
Actually, my point was that other authorities are calling it a hate crime. This is very much in the front and center news in Australia and England.
I could care less what or when Obama says, he usually stays silent on international issues for many days, hoping it blows over. Everyone knows that.
The "other authorities" also had this to say:
“The U.S. has chosen the pathway of illogical policy with regard to guns," Australia’s former deputy prime minister Tim Fischer said Friday. "They cannot expect not to have any criticism of it worldwide. I am angry because it is corrupting the world, this gun culture of the United States.”
So how do you like your authorities now?
Ask ANY African, European African or Caribbean African what they really think about African Americans attitudes, crime and violence. Buckle up for a truly enlightening conversation.

Well, he was wrong. Neither the law nor its appolication supports a differential treatment of races under hate crime laws.
...but that hypothesis is what some of us were responding to.
