Marshall's website boasts "#3 ranking" but links to its #16 ranking. I guess Marshall's not ready to move on. They posted the #3 when it was based on bad data and they post #3 when the report says #16. What's the excuse now?

I'm sure FCPS has enough control over high schools to restrict what they say as they feel necessary.

Many feel it's a question of ethics. That's why.

Do you work with a competing company to US News or something? Falls Church resident maybe and are jealous of Marshall's IB program? Bring it up with US News or FCPS if you feel so strongly the data needs to be retracted. I think there's enough posts here to say that both US News ratings in general and the Marshall rating last year are a bit skeptical. I just don't get the obsession over it. Very fuzzy logic, I think. Marshall and other schools should celebrate their achievements. There are many. They shouldn't celebrate awards based on false data.

It's positive for students at nearby AP schools if they have IB and Academy options at Marshall, just as it's good for students at Marshall to have the option to transfer to AP schools if they choose. It's bad for FCPS generally to have schools knowingly tout rankings derived from false data.

This isn't rocket science, and it's not about real estate values. It's Ethics 101. Personally, I don't buy the notion that it's OK for Marshall to do this because it got some bad press in the past. And people would be all over McLean or Madison if they did something similar, claiming "people in McLean and Vienna only care about their image," etc.

it's analogous if the Blue Ribbon was based on false underlying data. And dissatisfaction with the award doesn't mean the data was wrong.

That area has had to live with people constantly referring over several decades to one murder that happened near the high school. I think it deserves to celebrate it's achievements for one year. You know it only helps McLean and Madison if Marshall does well. The school offers additional enrichment and options that aren't available at those schools bringing those schools up too. I don't get all the backlash. If FCPS and US News didn't go back on the data, why should you need to post over and over again about how incorrect it is?
