Perhaps you are capable of being critical of India and Indian society though that is hardly evident in your diatribes. Less condescension and a more balanced approach would go a long way to disarm your critics.

You actually do make valid points but it gets muffled in your attempts to justify both the defensible and the indefensible.

As far bigotry on this board, you should check out some of the comments left by Indian readers on Indian newspapers. The comments on this board pales in comparison with what you find in those publications.

I agree. And the fact that you are so rational and, in many cases accurate, exposes them and upsets them even more. The obvious response is to attack you. I doubt you will change anyone's mind here though.

An Indian business owner, an acquaintance of mine whose skin is the color of dark mahogany once confided in me, "Bllack people are just about good for nothing. They are worthless. If I could, I'd pay them only a nickel an hour, that's all they are worth."

He was from southwest India, Kerala province.

When another Indian came to his house while he was away, and his wife (an American) let him in the house, when the Kerala Indian found out the other Indian had entered his home and sat on his furniture he was extremely agitated and upset, because this other Indian was from another caste, or another religion, or something.

He said words to the effect "I would let a flea-bitten dog dripping ticks enter my home before this person!"

I was utterly shocked. I had no idea some Indians had such hatred for other castes or groups.

I avoided the subject so as not to keep the man simmering and stewing in his anger.

You also say you're troll-proof, yet you've been jousting valiantly with some of our most well-known trolls. Like the first one who welcomed you, our Italian-American friend who thinks it's racist for an Indian immigrant to inquire what neighborhoods have concentrations of Indian-Americans and Indian immigrants, to get an idea where her Indian parents and in-laws might be more comfortable visiting. PP who said AA are sensitive. How in the world does that lump me into DCUMs greatest trolls? I never even comment on these threads but did so because Cindy claimed that it was somehow racist that people joke about hair texture in Brazil. And that the hypersensitivity observed in the US about race is somehow superior. It is not! The thread about white parents doing their black kids hair is a current example of this. Oh how dare a white person attempt to style their child's hair. In Brazil this wouldn't even be a topic.

Interesting. Where in India was this, who were you interacting with? Questions about anti-semitism are usually met with, "There are Jews in India?!" Indian Jews created the Bollywood film industry, and their synagogues have always been protected by local kings. There's a running joke about how Israelis routinely holiday in India in droves before/after fulfilling their military duties. There are also stories about Israelis being boorish when drunk, but they all pretty much come to India because they know they'll have a good time and it's cheap.
