Not the PP you're responding to but I've witnessed the high cost of litigation and battling to clear a reputation. Your life is never the same after going through the experience. Lance's former teammates and support staff have been pretty open about the suffering caused by Lance because they told the truth. Perhaps you might not have felt 'ruined' but they clearly have. You are in no position to judge them.

Yes, but were you ruined? The first guy in that story doesn't even bother to give specifics on how he was "ruined". And the second woman wrote a book afterwards; money I'm sure well covered her "ruination".

How about forcing him to make whole, at least financially, the people he sued for speaking out about his doping? Both for the legal fees they incurred defending themselves against the suit, and for the wages lost when LA blackballed them in their profession?

How about compensating the people who didn't win the TDF, and therefore didn't get the lucrative endorsements? (And prize money? I assume there's prize money, but don't know for sure.) They are out tons of money, because of his cheating.

How about the sponsors? They could make a case that they bought something in good faith (his good reputation) and are now finding out that the sale was fraudulent. They could claim a part of his fortune.

Who else, lawyers? Who else could ensure that, one way or another, this guy spends the rest of his life tied up in the legal system? It's almost better than prison, having to go from hearing to lawyer meetings to trials, in a never-ending loop.


He should be charged with abuse of process, at the least, for harassing those poor people and wasting court resources on something he knew to be a lie.

Ok. I answered my own question according to WaPo:
"Armstrong also testified under oath in 2005 deposition, strongly denying any doping, winning $7.5 million from a company that had refused to pay a bonus because it accused him of cheating in the Tour de France."

He lied under oath in a civil proceeding. That is absolutely a crime--though a misdemeanor. Considering the scope of his lying and also supplying illegal substances to other athletes, he really should probably get the maximum sentence.

Interesting that the Justice Department dropped their investigation out of the blue. He seemed very anxious talking about that. His demeanor was definitely unapologetic to say the least. If Marion had to go to jail for two years for lying bout her doping, Lance should have been convicted for lying and witness tampering for certain. He seemed to be above the law and that's bothersome. But that's what we do to celebs. Look at Lindsey Lohan, any normal personal would rot in jail with all of her DUIs and drug convictions.

Going through ball cancer is probably a fair trade for being an asshole to people.

I don't care about cycling/doping/armstrong but being a lousy spouse/fiance and slapping honest people with lawsuits creates bad karma.

It's interesting that the karma bus hit him before the rest of the world saw all the bad things he was doing, though. Here everyone was feeling bad for the ball thing, but there he probably was, knowing it was coming.
