An old English girls name, short for Kimberly, and definitely a girls name
But elsewhere strongly a boys name and definitely not unisex. Derived most probably from Yoachim or something. In soviet times is was the acronym for communist youth movement or something. So some boy children landed with that name that way.

When I was a camp counselor back in the early 90s - one of my campers was named Bree. Her sister was Colby and her brother was Hunter. The parents loved cheese and named their three kids after cheese.

Oddly, I also went to school with a pair of brothers named Land and Clay. The mom like "natural" earthy names.

Ok, but in English it means monkey! Or rather, primate. To refer to someone as having "simian" features means they look like a monkey. There are lots of beautiful words in other languages that mean something entirely different in other languages. And that disqualifies them as names, in my book, if you have any connection at all to the language that carries the other meaning.


Seriously, you're defining words for us now? And for someone who can tell you the Hebrew translation of "Simeon"?

To repeat the PP's point: "Simeon" is a name. "Simian" is an adjective. They are not the same word, and depending on your accent, they are not said the same.

Ocean (for girl of lesbian couple -- my kid talked for days about whether Ocean was girl or boy)

Then the place name girls all in the same class:
Paris
London
Brooklyn
France (not Frances, just France)

And I interviewed a girl named Pochonotas for a job....didn't give her the job but we talked about her name

I grew up with Sunny, Misty and Windy. They had a brother named Jed. Always thought it was weird that the girls had weather names but then there was Jed. Couldn't he have been Stormy or Dusty or something?
