Its probably been said and I havent bothered reading responses but its real easy to put this off on looks because its night and day between Holly and Mistress.

However, cheating happens regardless of if you have the finest wife on earth or an ugly species. Sure physical attractiveness shouldnt go down hill but do you mean to tell me if Holly looked like *pick the hottest actress you admire*, that Petraeus would not have given the Broadwell chic the time of day? Doubt it.

On the flip side, how about women who have kids, gain a lot of weight, cut their hair short, and then look like men who don't need to shave?

If I didn't have to try to rush through a shower, I would have left my hair long. Too much trouble for DH to watch the kids so I could take a full 10 minutes. He's lucky all I did was cut my hair off.

At the top of the military as well as major corporations no doubt there are many wives who make this deal -and "I don't get care what you do or who you do it with as long as I get to live on this lifestyle and it isn't thrown in my face." This might have been one of those marriages.

Hours and years of unpaid work on behalf of the military
Giving up her career and dreams so his could be the priority
Spending much of their marriage as a single parent
Moving constantly
Uprooting her children
Living in many shitholes without a choice
Having to swallow her own opinions, thoughts and complaints and bite her tongue, for the culture of the military
and many more things

All of her sacrifices contributed to his ability to reach the height of his career.

I'm there with you. In college, I was good looking but ate anything I wanted and never worked out. At 30 and hormonal changes with having kids, the lbs. started to pile on. After not being successful at loosing the weight after kids, I just chucked it up to that was life and I was getting older. After all, my mom and my sister had bigger weight problems than me. I would say I avoided the scale for several years and gave up on that issue. In my 40's, however, being out of shape took some serious health turns. I have high blood pressure as well as other problems that put exercise on the recommendation list by several doctors.

So for the first time in my life, I got a trainer to help me with an exercise routine I can do and that I like. I vetoed things (like swimming) that were put on the table if they were not my thing. Seriously, I hate getting in the water (too cold) and I am not very good so I knew I just wouldn't keep it up. Finding active things I enjoyed kept me motivated. Treadmill was easy. I like music so I could listen to my iPod while jogging. Weights were the same thing. I also do yoga and Pilates. In addition to regular exercise, I also made simple changes in my diet (no sugar or white flour products). The combination helped me loose over 65 lbs. I look like a different person. I feel like a different person and my health is much better.

Looking back at family pictures, I absolutely cringed at how far I let myself go. To his credit, my husband never said anything before but he is liking the revived me. Ultimately, I didn't lose the weight for him. I lost it for a healthier me and I wanted to set a good example for my children.

I think he was ego hungry and had a 40 year old hanging on his every word and thinking he was so great at his disposable. Especially while over in Afghanistan/Irag/wherever. I'm sure there was some downtime! It was a matter of being an ego boost and an easy situation that presented itself.

The looks of the other woman usually doesn't matter, its the ego boost and the fact that they can.

Let me add a different perspective. I had an affair with a two star general, not saying which service. Our age difference is 15 years. Neither of us had any intention of leaving our spouses for the other. Extramarital relationships are natural.

I agree whole-heartedly. They all look great and fun and sexy. Holly looks matronly and I know I'll get in trouble with this, but she looks like one of those couples that got married when gay marriage was legalized in DC.
