I think of Stephen King's book, "Salem's Lot" about vampires or the Salem witch trials. Dreadful name.

The name is derived from the Arabic and Hebrew roots for peace. The city itself was named for such. As was Jerusalem

Yes, let something that happened in the late 1600's influence your child's name. Any of you anonymous posters name your child John? First thing that comes to mind is John Wayne Gacy. How could you do that to a child?
You can literally do this with ANY name. Any.
If a child makes fun of another kid's name, its a safe bet one of their parents also takes the time to bash someone else's name in an online forum.

Went to Wake Forest (in Winston-Salem) and know another alum with a Salem. And still think for the witch trials and wonder what the parents were thinking. Just wait until DCs class reads the Crucible in school. S/he'S in for a tough time.

I think it's gorgeous! And if you like it, that's what matters. My boyfriend and I have actually been stuck between Salem and Silas for our baby boy.
