You're entering into an agreement with the state lottery that you buy your ticket from. You don't have to be a resident to buy a ticket, but if you buy a winning ticket in, say North Carolina, you'll have to go to that state to collect.

There are some exceptions to the photo/name rules. If you are in hiding because of a protective order or the witness protection program, you can claim anonymously in most states.

While it sucks to have your photo and name published, keep in mind that Virginia has a low state tax rate. When you're talking about hundreds of millions, a few percentage points can mean a lot of money.

I asked my kids and they said they'd give it to charity. Not sure I'd be as giving. Definitely college and retirement are top priorities. And a new boat. Would love to stay in my neighborhood but would renovate the house.

Change your name to something super common like Mary Smith, do the disguise and then claim the winnings. Transfer it to a blind trust. Change your name again and take up residence in another country for a couple of years. Then come back to the US to a new state and then change your name for the third time.

I'd totally get a make over and wig before my photo op!

Most of the previous things mentioned but my first order of business would be spend a week with girlfriends at some ridiculously expensive spa retreat (like Canyon Ranch but ritzier). I would hire a full time nanny, chef and cleaning person for my husband while I'm gone. Can't wait until I win!!
