PP can you say why you would turn down Cap City for CM?

A big factor in the decision was location. We were willing to make the drive to the new Capital City location because we really liked the school and having that green space will be great, but not being close to either of the nearest metro stations was a pretty big turn-off. Creative Minds is closer to work and home and is accessible via train, bus and Circulator. I also had my concerns about having PS-12 all in one building at Cap City.

Location aside, there were quite a few things I really liked about Creative Minds such as the smaller class sizes, the school’s philosophy of education, the arts integration and the music teacher. My child isn’t SN as far as I know but I feel comfortable knowing that if an issue is discovered that CM would be well-equipped to deal with it. The principal and the admin coordinator have been great about answering any questions I have. Overall, I just got a good vibe from Creative Minds and I think it has great potential so here’s hoping it turns out well and I don't kick myself later for turning down Cap City!

Turned down Francis-Stevens PS and Capital City PCS for Creative Minds PCS - PK4.

Turning down Creative Minds.....too new, and logistics could become a headache from SE.

These are generally considered the historically most desirable DCPS elementary schools. They are located in upper NW, have hugely involved parent populations and have been doing a good job educating children despite DCPS for decades. There are other good DCPS elementaries as well, both in upper NW and other parts of the city. They are in expensive but not the most expensive neighborhoods in DC, as the most affluent have historically sent their children to private schools. You can generally count on your children attending school with a cohort of other children that (1) are being raised by educated parents and (2) arrive at school prepared to learn every day.

Tenleytown to YY isn't bad, but a lot depends on where you need to go after that. I head back to work in MoCo, it's a horrid lifestlye!
