How about food? If a child's family cannot afford to buy food, do they deserve to eat? (just as valid as the Mercedes comparison) How about adults to raise them? If a child is orphaned, do they have a right to have a grown up care for them?

Agree. The source of probelen is that poor and illiterate people with too many kids are over crowding the public schools.

This thread is so unfortunately typical - it's just another version of "MY school is the greatest so long as MY child and their needs and MY narrow, self centered expectations remain at the center of the universe at ALL times because I paid for it, and therefore, any ignorance concerning what I actually signed up for should be excused......

15:27 not many! The truth is the schools want to provide aid to higher achieving lower income students - teachers, fire fighters, college educated parents who are choosing to pursue career over income.

They do not want a 25 year old or younger mom with a 5 year old no matter how smart their kid is.

I don't mind "poor folks" getting FA. I mind folks who aren't poor gaming the system to get it.

Why is public school not an option for poor students?

I have been on financial aid since second grade and onwards. Those of us on/have been on aid are more appreciative and thankful to those who donate then you may ever imagine. We have a much different mind set then those who paid in full, because we know that a school does not want a underperforming student, much less, one who is using money another student could use, so we push ourselves to achieve the most we can. Some of you posted as if we are the scum of the earth, but after my father died my mother worked 3 jobs along with raising 4 more kids, and I worked one just to support my family and pay the remainder of the tuition. Now if any of you people who think you are above us want to put yourselves in my shoes or my mothers and still think the same thoughts then shame on you. The opportunity I was given through a generous person's donations allowed me to excel to the point where I can afford to pay full tuition for my 3 children and give to the financial aid funds. Thank you and maybe this will change your mind about where your dollars go.

New money may be A LOT of money, millions, but if you work for it, made it yourself, you are not Upper Class, you might be "rich" but you will never be upper class, ypur kids maybe provided that you invest well.
Income not based on earnings from own work, but from inherited wealth: land, dividend, trusts, etc...
