FYI to any non-federal employees planning to attend this meeting -- I think there are specific security requirements to reach this room. You will need an ID, and you may need an escort. To avoid problems with reaching the meeting, I would check ahead of time with the center.

I have no experience with the particular teacher, but it sounded from one of the parents here that her child was frightened of that teacher. I would like to know, i guess, from both the parent and the administration on what frightened the child, if the parent thought the concern was legitimate and shared that concern, and if the concern was more than just a personality difference, why the center thinks moving the teacher to another classroom will alleviate the situation. If there is really a concern about child safety or ability of the staff member, I would hope the Center would replace the staff member. I would also like to hear from the center if the aid who forcibly sat the child down, according to a parent, still works at the Center. If he/she does, I think that is a problem.

I would like the Center to address how they will ensure allergies are taken seriously. My child does not have allergies, but I know of a child who does and was given the school snakc, even though they are only supposed to get food from home. It looked to me as if the caregiver gave the child the snack in an effort to shut them up and took the easy way out. Allergies are serious things and I'd like to know what the Center's response is to such a violation.

I am not sure if the lead teacher in the older discovery preschool room has a degree. there is nothing on her bio that indicates this is the case. FWIW, I have had several communication issues with those teachers that I plan to discuss with either Alice or the corporate folks.

Yes, the teacher is still there. I asked the center director today. Is your concern focused on ousting this one particular teacher from the center. From what I have read, people mainly didn't like her personality and were concerned that she communicated the wrong information about the curriculum. What are the other grievances against this teacher? Why do you want her fired?

I really haven't come in contact with folks that just don't "give a damn" at the center. I have encountered some people that don't have the same communication style that I have, even some of the parents. That's OK with me though. As long as my kid is learning the right things, then that is what I am concerned about.

Does anyone know if the discovery preschool teachers need early childhood degrees for NAEYC certification? I would like to see the security at the entrance up and running and the secruity guard at the door. To truly be safe, you need multiple layers of security. I am also interested in their COOP, in case something happens. Georgetown Law Child Care Center had an excellent plan in place and I hope to work with them on this. I want more information on their enrichment activities for the summer too.

I noticed that they are interviewing. For what positions I am not sure. I looked at the cclc website, and they are advertising for teachers, as well as the executive director position. If there is a change in administration, I hope the center will get a lot of support from corporate to minimize the additional instability.

I don't know if the center plans to replace the problem teacher(s). The newsletter from the other day mentioned movement of some teachers to accomodate their wishes and to also find the best fit. That is a particular question I have as well (and would specifically like to know about that teacher and if she is still with WOW in a different room).

I too remained concerned about the attitudes of some of the staff and I don't know if that can be remedied with means other than replacing those staff members with new people. I am going to go to the meeting next week, but I don't think my child will stay in WOW long term. I don't work on site yet and won't for a few years-perhaps we will revisit WOW at that time. I am planning to put DC back in our previous program when a spot is available there in a few months and DC will probalby stay at WOW until then. I have considered putting DC somewhere else b/w now and June, but DC seems to like WOW and I'm not sure if moving to a third provider when I know we'll be back with our first provider in June is really in DC's best interests.

I saw her picture displayed as a teacher outside one of the under age 2 classrooms (today).

Good to know but very disappointing and definitely does not help with my concerns regarding quality of staff. I figured if she was still with the center that the only age group she could have gone to was younger, which, IMO, is even worse.

A call-in number would be very helpful. I'm wondering if it might be better to communicate some of my concerns before that meeting even though I plan to attend in person (unless there is a call-in number).
