Thank you for sharing the information and suggestion. Could anyone give me idea if there is a chance of my son selected through parent referral..

His Composite score is 130 and Quantitative is 136.

1. How much GBRS score is require in-order to be in
2. Is getting recommendation letter from Pre-school director/teacher is good or getting recommendation from Math/ Lego league coach is good ?
3. What work sample documents you guys suggest ?

If he is in 2nd grade in FCPS, he is in the pool. I would guess that the pool letter just got lost in the mail, but I would email the AART just to confirm.

7:36--I'm very new at this as well, but I would include at least a few pieces with your form (it's too late to get extra testing at this point anyway). Letters from coaches, music teachers, etc.--should be easy enough to collect and might be useful in pointing out your DD's particular strengths. Since she is clearly highly verbal, I would submit at least one story she has written at home to demonstrate her abilities.

I groaned at the referral paperwork until I actually started doing it...it's not too bad overall.

8:28--Ours came in Friday's mail. Apparently they were bulk-mailed, so it took a few days. Ask your school when they did the mailing.

Anybody not gotten Cogat scores yet??

You can fill out the one page referral form and see what happens. There is always the appeal process as well.

Can we skip the optional forms and not be at a disadvantage? We'd like her considered, but I'm not inclined to get extra testing, jump through hoops to get her in AA. Our son he also very bright, but ADHD is a big issue. He's in 6th grade on gen ed has been excellent, so if that's her path too, it's ok.

i am not looking on at the weights of the tests, just a generalization. 1 point on the GBRS is roughly equivalent to 10 points on the test.

So for every 10 points below the cutoff? What score? Are you suggesting that the CogAT verbal is weighted more highly than the non verbal? Or perhaps another subtest? Where is this posted online?

If by strong referral you mean letter from Grandma, no go. If you mean 12+ GBRS, you're in.

Historically, about 40% of the not-in-pool referrals are found Center-eligible. I do not know what that means for this year.

I know FCPS says they consider more than the score, and as reported here, they don't necessarily take everyone in the pool. But what are the chances of a strong referral getting my child to Level IV? She missed the pool this year (127 composite, though her 132 in Nonverbal would have gotten her in last year ).
