SKR, I would appeal. Sometimes the selection committee at the school feels you have "too many brights in the family" and they need to "share the AAP wealth" It seems like she qualifies, so I would appeal, or else move. Everyone in my family has an advanced degree -- we all would have qualified for GT. Thankfully, we (adults) did not go to school in this system. All of my children were in GT --older now. GL.

I don't know what you can do except apply again next year. The scores are good but none of them are compelling. They all seem just below what is necessary for acceptance. Some posters try again the following year with a new gbrs. I think that is the hardest thing to overturn and the wisc doesn't seem high enough to make them discount the gbrs. I would make sure she is getting all the level iii that us offered and advanced math if possible.

I know there is a tendency to think as a mom am biased in thinking my DD is gifted. She isn't as much as my older two were, BUT then I am also harsh and criquing. (blame the asian genes) but others have told me repeatedly that she is doing so much better at school and outside. PLUS, my biggest peeve is that there is no challenge at the current school. Despite us asking for it.
Am not the only one hwo feels that way.

Honestly? Based on those scores, I can see why she was not found eligible. If she has not taken a retest in FCPS yet (I am not clear if she did that already or not -- each student is allowed one retake) I would probably opt for that next school year. I would not appeal this year.

Hi, am so glad I fell upon this forum and it is current.

DD is my 3rd child in 3rd grade and my older 2 (son and daughter) made GT(AAP) and are now in 12/11 (son is in TJHSST, daughter in chantilly high)

I did a parent referral for her this year. The asst principal did all in her power for her to not take the cogat 3. I was miseld to believe that she could take it in Jan and then didnt allow her to take it, and instead offered cogat 4. I denied.
Instead did the WISC privately.
Here is her case. (she got denied and am debating on appealing or just selling and moving homes, coz i am so dejected iwth the school and the complete apathy of the admin to not help the few kids who do well!)

I will be teh first one to admit that she was playful and not serious in 2nd grade (as her scores reflect) but she has turned around over the summer and is very mature for her age.

Cogat 2nd grade - Verbal -124, Quant -116, Nonverbal -115
WISC -
Full scale index - 130
VCI = 130
Working memory = 126
Perceptual Reasoning = 119
Processing speed = 118

GBRS = 9
Exceptional ability to learn = 3
Exceptional ap[pl of knowledge = 1 (which is really BS)
Exceptional creative thinking = 2 (again BS coz the girl is gifted when it comes to music and dance and amply demosntrated by certificates and awards from when she was 4 yrs old)
Exceptional Motivation = 3

She is most certainly under ranked, when u actually see what teh class teacher had written in the commentary. It's teh GT teacher (who EVERYONE hates) and the Asst principal who gave me tremendous grief during the school year regd pullouts etc.

Certificates, awards and recommendation letters are excellent.
Class teacher agrees she does not belong to this class.

What do I do? Please advise.

The program works for the high achievers, but is not required.

The biggest problem I see is telling the difference between the gifted and the creative.

The funny thing is, as an adult, I can often tell who is gifted by talking to them.

I knew a kid that was super bright...150+...He did not need to do HW. Did horribly in school because he would always get 0's on HW. Did much better in college. He could have used GT, but I do not think he would do well.
