My son was 4 years and 3 months when I put him in Kumon. Im too broke, makes $11/hour. I promised to myself, as long as I live, I will give every available time going to park with him and checking his math worksheets. He's 5 years and 8 months now but his math is Grade 5 math reducing fractions. He started Kindergarten last September, in another 6 months, he's going to start Algebra. By Grade 1, he'll be in Linear Equation/Permutations. We only spend 20 minutes a day doing 10 pages of exercise.

For the OP.... There is surely no one best way to educate your preschool children. For those of you with more than one kid, you know this already.

We have experience with pre-K KUMON and we think it's a great per-K program for bolstering skills and self esteem. If you have the funds and schedule to accomodate it, you may want to ask yourself what it is that you think would hurt them from this experience? They do a great job of ensuring the work meets their current skill level. My child has only had a positive experience with it.

That said, every kid is different. Maybe you should try it out for a month or so and see if your child works well with their program and the teachers. Good luck!

These math exercises are done by the child and corrected by a responsible parent at home. You can replenish your supply 2 X a week, once a week or once a month depending on schedule or purchase the math workbooks at Borders or Barnes and Nobles.

It's great therapy for adults -- particularly those with early senility and dementia. How fast can you mentally compute? Can you beat a 6-year-old?
