Given so many people voted to reelect Laurie-Anne Sayles who is the absolute worst councilmember in since I've been following the Council over the last decade, I would not read to much into 30% of primary voters picking Diaz. Most voters really don't know much at all about the people they vote for.
I totally get that Diaz seems reasonable in her answers to the Banner just like Sayles seems competent. But Diaz is not any more reasonable than Sayles is competent. Anybody can get a consultant to write answers to these questions. Diaz has shown us who she is and all that will be made painfully apparent in the general election.

Well said. I voted early last week and didn't vote for her but now, I would vote for her this November. Mainly because a lot of these threads gave links to comments she made. I guess the people posting those comments wanted those comments to make her sound right wing fringe but I found myself agreeing with those comments and they sounded reasonable. Plus all the fear mongering from posters on this site.

Plus word will get out more fully about her MAGA beliefs. Her website is pretty deceptive in that regard. She actively misled voters about her core beliefs. I almost fell for it.

+1. I voted for her. I mentioned it a couple times when she first came up and got the usual round of insults. I'm on the other side from her on a lot of the cultural war issues (both ideologically and personally), but education matters more than how she feels about pride flags. People get very angry when you say that though.

I will sometimes hold my nose and vote for a given candidate, but could not in this case. However, I agree with most of what you're saying and did think she was the sharpest, most substantive candidate. My hope is that her candidacy prompts Lazo to sharpen his platform and up his game significantly. If it doesn't, will be a tough choice come November. Although I despise some of her beliefs, I agree that it's hard to see her getting any traction with them in this role.

She closed a 26 point gap in the primary to a 14 point gap in the general, where there were about three times the votes cast. Against a teacher who presented, at the time, as the most polished of the candidates across races.
That was a presidential election. This November is likely to have less turnout. A big question will be whether MoCo's blue voters will turn out in large numbers, relative to others, as a symbolic national rebuke, which might act as an anchor for her, or whether they'll stay home because of the relative non-contests in MD across the general election ballot, which might see her achieve greater percentage gains than she got 2 years back.
