How about whether to hold an A meet on July 4th, simply because it's a Saturday, or do the right thing and have the meet on Friday the 3rd?
Pools are running meets on national holidays?
Wait until I tell you about the baseball and soccer tournaments on Memorial Day. You’ll be shocked that an event from 8:00 to 10:30 am would happen on July 4th.
Not the best comparison given that many places have parades, etc. on the morning of July 4th. Our swim team always participates in our town’s parade and building our float, etc is a highlight of the summer.
Plus, with Memorial Day sports tournaments your whole weekend is already shot. You are also playing on Saturday and Sunday. Moving summer swim meets to the morning of July 3rd lets families that want to get out of town for (most of) the long weekend do so while still making the meet.
Hard to see any good reason not to move meets to July 3.
Also worth noting that Memorial Day tournaments are voluntary. Teams choose to sign up for them. Many teams choose not to so as not to impact the holiday weekend.

You seem obsessed with having meets on the holiday. Fits the title of this thread. Good to see that many teams are taking the more rational approach and agreeing to move to July 3.

In 2015, only one meet shifted to Friday. https://mynvsl.com/schedules?year=2015&div=&date=20150703
Same situation, Independence Day on an NVSL Saturday, would have occurred in 2020 .. but COVID happened in case anyone forgot. Not a lot of old timers from 2015 are still around.
Division 1 NVSL I believe is switching to Friday this year.
We're on one of these teams and this is not the case for our team/meet at least.

Or skip the meet if you want. If your team isn't a division contender, who cares? But if your team IS a contender, get yo azz to the pool and stop moping.
POOLS are the ones pushing for Friday as far as I can tell. Our away opponent brought it up but apparently we aren't changing. July 4 it is.
We are in MCSL and our division A will be hosting Relay Carnival A on Friday, July 3 and our regular A meet on Saturday, July 4 will proceed like it is a regular Saturday meet. Who decides on these things?!!

Keep it going DCUM swim fam!
Anonymous wrote:July 3 vs 4 appears to be up to the two teams involved in each meet to decide for themselves. Our team rep sent a survey out to the team, had a conversation with the other team's rep to compare results, and went with the majority vote from both teams. No complaints here on how they handled it, whether my vote "won" or not.
