Same but I’m annoyed that all the kids are talking about it and now think they should take it if they’re strong in math. We’ve talked at length about this all yr and DC is fine w/ the decision not to rush this but was second guessing a bit this week after hearing all the chatter. Our crazy competitive school will likely have more than 1/2 of the AAP class enrolling.
Feels like the choice has become to insecurity, or hold them back. Do they have enough teachers…

My kids is a level 3 AAP for math at a center school. She in the same class as the AAP kids for math she took the 6th grade SOL in 5th and this year will take 7th grade SOL.

My kid is in a local level IV school. I’m wondering if we don’t put him in algebra, will he still get regular advanced math, which would be the pre-algebra curriculum? If so, won’t that be difficult for teachers— I don’t think our school can support an Algebra, advanced math, and regular math set of classes.

this is FCPS’s first year using MAP. i think for the current grade 6 kids taking algebra it was 1125Q on iready and they had to do a math 7 assessment before they started to make sure they had a foundation. plus pass advance. it’s just stupid to make it standard pass

I think the May 8 deadline is due to staffing reasons. They want to see which schools will have enough kids for a teacher (15+) vs virtual.
You can withdraw your kid from Algebra I at any time through the third quarter (which is problematic because then they’ve missed foundational instruction). So you can certainly opt out after the May 8 deadline, even if they might not be happy with you.

Our school principal sent an email stating that: Students’ final eligibility will be based on passing the Grade 6 Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) assessment.
Just got that email as well. Pass. Not pass advanced.

Advanced math at our ES is. Some schools start advanced math in 3rd grade while others wait until 5th to start for some reason.
Level III is different than Advanced Math. Level III is/was, I thought it was no longer, a special class that provided more depth in subjects for kids not in LIV. Advanced Math is a specific class for math acceleration for kids not in LIV.
In my child's school, Level III kids (now called "subject specific something something" get pushed into the AAP class for advanced math.
Our school had kids in LIII, kids in Advanced Math, and kids in both. There were more kids in Advanced Math than LIII.
