No, the police have said these charges have nothing to do with the other molestation related charges and happened in a different state. These are separate charges that occurred in Arkansas and involved 4 minor children and both parents. These seem to have come to light during the investigation. Someone may have talked to their own kids to see if they were ever abused and in the course of those conversations it was disclosed they had been locked in their rooms - just speculation.

The Duggars use "blanket training" where they use corporal punishment on infants, so I can imagine they also engage in other forms of abuse and neglect.

The parents put a baby on a blanket and then place a toy off of the blanket. When the baby tries to crawl off to get the toy the parent slaps or spanks the baby. So the baby learns by utter fear and terror to be obedient.

I think these people are all bad news, but having to pass through the parents to get to the girls was probably to protect the girls after their older brother was known to have abused multiple of them and they had to continue living in the same house with him. I don't think that's in the same category as literally locking kids in their rooms.

I think hiding the fact that your son was abusing his sisters and forcing them to live in the same house as him, while continuing to teach them that sexual abuse is the fault of the child, is in the same category as locking your children up to avoid an investigation into CSA.

Okay. And yet there is a false imprisonment charge.

I think its more the atmosphere and exposure that it's acceptable that breeds this behavior. People who are abused at random and realize it's unacceptable dont repeat.

Agree that it’s because of their religion, though overwhelming evidence shows that most people who are pedophiles were themselves sexually abused as children - not an excuse at all - there’s no excuse for this behavior, but it does seem to be a perpetual cycle.

I also think it’s a cycle because a lot of people with those tendencies are drawn to these kinds of cultish religions. Men get absolute power, women have no say, and they can be very strict with their children. Homeschooling can cover a lot of abuse, and nobody comes forward because there’s a lot of blaming and shame and it’s God’s Will type of thing so you have a perpetual cycle.

These kids were raised to view girls as victims/temptresses who probably really want it, and boys as predators who can't be trusted to control themselves around their own sisters. The boys' unnatural separation from normal relationships with sisters or girl peers probably created some kind of weird temptation/mystique around the opposite sex, who in their minds exist only for sin or for motherhood. If you look at the teachings of their cult about this stuff, it tracks. It's a perfect storm for abuse.

It is really sad the parents farmed off children to the siblings to raise. They had a system where an older child was a "buddy" to a younger sibling.

Josh who is the older brother now in prison was assigned at age 8 to be the "buddy" to Joseph. He remained his "buddy" up until Josh admitted to sexually abusing several of his sisters and a family friend when he was 14-15 and Joseph was 7-8. That is when the boys were no longer buddies to younger siblings. Not even the younger boys.

Josh wasn't just looking after Joseph, he was also in charge of discipline. So Joseph had to be obedient to Josh.

There has to be a high probability Joseph was abused. And that more inappropriate behavior occurs in that household.
