Did you read that entire OP? Rubio says one thing but if you call the number, you are told that the USG has no plans to evacuate citizens and that you are on your own. On your own!
The State Department and the rest of the USG were beyond lackadaisical. They clearly had NO plan if the bombing went beyond 24 hours. We are now in day 4!
It must hurt to believe you’re this right. Especially based on a post here.
I spent 20 years working on international issues. Many friends who are at State. Know folks who've handled evacs from Saigon onwards. I got up this AM and tried to land one way flights from six different airports in the region to DC - nada. I've called the State Department line every hour till 5 pm.
So my beliefs are grounded in decades of expertise, not someone who clearly has no idea how some Asian and most European nations handle such a situation. And the United States until Saturday. Let's say, for your sake, that there had been an attack on US installations in the region and we responded. The State Department would've begun planning on a classified basis until it was a go, then this number, the website, the embassies and consuls in the region would've flipped to "go" mode. That is not what happened here. At all.
There is a task force in place.
have a friend at state - announced only today, four days into the conflict and five days after Trump decided to bomb Iran.
Your friend just found out.
What are you talking about? Consular officers have been buzzing about what is going happen as the LACK OF ACTION is total departure from precedent. All of a sudden today they want folks to leave their posts and head to the region to handle evacuations.
Are you consular?

Europe and some Asian countries began evacuation charters. Earlier today, the USG was saying that they had no plans to evac Americans even though no commercial airlines are flying at this time. If you call the State Department number, it is pretty damning - "shelter in place and refresh your browser for updates from your local embassy").
Just a bit ago on Capitol Hill, before Rubio went in to brief senators, he announced that USG will be evacuating Americans in the region, that they should try to drive to the closest airport, even if it is in a neighboring country, that they should enroll in the STEP program, etc. I called the State Department number again and it is the same recording - "please do not rely on the USG for assisted departure or evacuation at this time blah blah blah."
This is an ef up of epic proportions. Heads would roll for this, not just one.
They should take a bus to Egypt. These people had a month to leave yet they chose to stay.
Please share the cite for when the US State Department told folks to evac the region?

This list does not include many of the countries where the airports are now closed.
Do better when stumping for MAGA.
JFC. Use your common sense. Do you have any?

ONLY after receiving criticism.
That’s not accurate.

They've been urging Americans to leave the Middle East for weeks now.![]()

These links are hilarious. The first 2 are for Iran ONLY. Iran only. The third and fourth ones are for non-emergency US staff/all dependents for Israel and Lebanon, respectively. There is no mention of Bahrain, Doha, Dubai, etc, none whatsoever.
So please check your receipts before you post them.
+1 For those saying “they shouldn’t be there anyway…”
When has an administration so thoroughly failed and betrayed so many Americans at once? This is historic.

Many airports struck, or have to fly over closed dangerous airspace. Only planes going out are private from Jordan airport (partially destroyed) with $350,000 a seat prices, mostly Russian. An evacuation plane organized by German govt for women and children had to fly with no attendants and one pilot due to lack of staff - that’s not safe. No way to fly more staff in.
There’s no way out.
