Same thing happens with every league.

My son plays ECNL, it works for us, including not having to break a contract to play HS.

But I don’t blame the high schools for HG kids on their rosters, I blame the Clubs. If kids aren’t coming to practice they shouldn’t be playing on the weekends, but coaches don’t want to lose so they play them.
I know one local HG Club moved to combine age groups at practice last Spring because there were so few kids showing up.
MLS Next isn’t sanctioning the Clubs, the Clubs don’t make it difficult for the kids.

Honestly why be the one rule follower and watch others having fun with no consequences.
Most of the pay to play HG kids aren’t playing in College, let them play in HS.
And yes I am one of those people who think playing in high school is fun, it’s a whole different experience than Club.

It will be interesting to see how many teams around here bend the rules and slip in some MLS HGs to play high school. It seems to happen every year where a few somehow “appear” on rosters. Lightridge High School published their roster there were quite a few MLS Next players from NVA listed. I'm sure Riverside will do the same. With NVA owning the county, their move to MLS Next removes a significant amount of players allowed to engage in HS soccer.

most people use club sports as a way to try and get their kids the experience of being on a high school team.

The current club/travel sports setup has ruined HS sports in general. Kids think they need to play club to get to the next level, and they do. But, if kids aren’t playing in college (and even if they are), they need to realize HS sports are going to be one of the best experiences of their lives and they may be missing it chasing some dream of playing in college at a D3 school or, even worse, in soccer, at some low-paid semi-pro academy.

I know this post is tongue in cheek but original post is true for a 9th and 10th grader. If you took all the best encl kids at a school that are 11th and 12th graders with a few mls next kids sprinkled in they would dominate any u-16 team.

They are every where, our school has 2 and 2 more trying to join at a later date. There is another 1 mls next kid on jv and he looks completely average on jv. The MLS next is so water down in the area it is insane, especially after the top 5 or so kids on a mls next team. As other posters have mentioned. Varsity soccer is much higher in Fairfax county than MLS next 9th and 10th graders.

none of them are my son, not my problem.

How do you know? Rosters have not been publicly posted yet.

MLS doesn’t allow that. No players are currently playing HS Soccer this is fact

Quality of HS soccer is obviously way below travel. Somewhere between rec and travel, but kids do have fun playing for their school and with their friends. I'm in LC, will be interesting to see what happens now that NVA is MLS HG, I bet coaches find ways to get players on the field quietly. We already know SYC and alexandria has players throughout the local HS that play.

yes both are. But some of the boys are trying to convince friends to quit the club. Most of them are not playing at college level
