America is actually a completely amoral country. The patriotism we talk about is only the rantings of MAGA White supremacists. MAGA hates immigrants and racial minorities are not given a fair chance in this country.
American values is all about making a buck. And Eileen Gu's values are the best of American values.
Of course, her hard work and her mother's sacrifices are a result of the best of Chinese family culture so it was appropriate that she honored her background by playing for China. Besides, China is smart, strategic, influential and not broke like USA. I expect her career and earnings will sky-rocket in the future with her China connection.
And she's gorgeous! Many of her endorsements are about her being so pretty, and the half-Chinese, half-American look does very well in China. Alysa Liu is also Chinese American, and at least so far, even after winning a world championship last year, she doesn't appear to have strong sponsorship income. I think it's an interesting comparison, as they are both Chinese Americans, though, of course, Elieen's mom is welcomed back in China, while Alysa's dad is not, so skating for China was never an option for Alysa. I hope Alysa can convert her Olympic Gold into a small fortune, too!
Maybe China or Taiwan should give her similar endorsement. Or maybe other countries should bid on Alysa?
I agree. She should also make a fortune like Eileen. Also, I think it is fair for the world to bid on the best athletes so as audience we can see spectacular sports. And athletes can get citizenships in more resourced nations.

Ah, the Asian parent "sacrifice".
What exactly did her mother sacrifice that countless other parents haven't done for their own children?
If a Chinese parent works, it's a sacrifice for the child.
If a Chinese parent stays-at-home, it's a sacrifice for the child.
If a Chinese parent takes her child to sports practice, it's a sacrifice.
All these "sacrifices" are simply called parenting in other cultures. Asian "sacrifice" language is a tool for manipulating guilt on the children.
Eileen Gu's mother likely failed to obtain her MRS degree and at the ripe age of 40 cast about for a sperm. There are lots of women like this who, at the closing of their fertile window, make desperate and drastic choices to be a single parent. Her mother seems to have amassed a high number of various US degrees prior to finally settling on a profession - killing time in school? Like Alysa Liu's father, she made an engineered choice about the donor's traits and features. But unlike Alysa Liu, it seems Eileen Gu was brought up with solid grounding, wide exposure to worlds outside of her sport and a loving multi-generational family.

They are erasing Uygher culture and involuntarily sterilizing the Uygher women and causing genocide of the Uygher peoples.
Anonymous wrote:Eileen Gu speaks fluent Chinese because she spent every summer there with her family. That is one of the reasons why the Chinese love her - she's a Wasian who speaks with a fluent Beijing accent.
As for her earnings, let's be frank. The market in China is much bigger than the US. Of course she would earn more for her endorsements there.

I think my my bigger beef is China. Why represent a country known for its human rights abuses? Hopefully she's at least a spy for the CIA pretending to be an ally.
Obviously there is another one skiing for the UK, but I don't find that as ethically dubious.
Do you realize that this is ALL of the U.S. athletes now?

And hilarious that Russia is not here because of Ukraine but we just took out Venezuela's president
I know OP is MAGA. Only they can be so hypocritical at this point in time.
No it's not even remotely the same as decades of genocide and female fetocide in China

Jeebus, read a book, PP. If ever there were a nation known for a history of human rights abuses, it would be the UK.
The USA has a pretty bad history of human rights abuses too. I mean, genocide, slavery, the treatment of immigrants by paramilitary good squads.
