My long lost "democratic" party. We're running around calling everyone Hitler or a Nazi and then setting up road blocks all around Minnesota and asking people for their papers and to prove who they are.![]()
You mean murder two American citizens and lie about it.
No, I mean calling everyone else a Nazi and then acting like one yourself.
you sound like a maga pretending to not be a maga. Just stop. If you are ok with people many legal citizens being violently grabbed and killed in our streets then go get your red hat on and cheer loudly for your freedom and rights being eroded daily, but don't pretend to be someone who cares about this country and other humans.
You are such a partisan rhat you’ve lost objectivity. People agree that some ICE need to be arrested and tried for murder.
Partisans need to stop regurgitating what their puppet leaders’ platform. Anyone who is GOP/MAGA or a Democrat right now shouls be ashamed.

"Best" is subjective. Like how Melania thinks her husband is #BeBest.
I have friends who moved to Portugal with their kids. They love it. They are never coming back. They only come back because they have to visit one's elderly parents, but they said if it weren't for that, they would never come back here.
I looked into the D7 visa and how much health insurance costs there. It's 100Euro per month per person. I'm currently paying $1700/mo for a HDP for the three of us.
Americans are being screwed, and MAGA seem fine with it because as long as they stick it to the libs they're willing to pay more. Desantis tried to import cheaper Canadian drugs, and the Canadian government said, "nope". So, we continue to pay a ridiculous amount for drugs compared to the rest of world.

Portugal is changing the tax structure for long-stay visa holders. Talked to a woman who had moved there from the US, and she is now facing a 50% tax rate. Other countries (like Spain) have a wealth tax on all assets. Plus you are on the hook for US taxes, and you don't get Medicare overseas. Moving overseas isn't easy. We've talked about it, but I'm 60 and partner is 70. We're going to hunker down here for the duration.
you don't pay double taxes. If your taxes are higher in the foreign country, you get credit for that for US taxes (my spouse is a dual citizen from Europe).
the 48% tax rate hits at about 84K Euros. We don't need that much to live in Portugal. You can live very well on $3k/mo to $5K/mo in Portugal.
Our health insurance premium is higher than our mortgage, and we don't qualify yet for medicare.
Right now, we need about $10K per month just to live comfortably, which includes ACA health insurance HDP, other medical costs, other insurance, food, etc.. We don't eat out that much, and that doesn't include travel.
Cost of living in Portugal is about half that in the DC area. And I do not want to move to a cheap place in the US. I'd rather pay more in taxes to live in Portugal.
Right now, we need about $170K gross to live comfortably. Based on these numbers, we will need $100K gross to live comfortably in Portugal, and bonus: travel to Europe is cheaper from Portugal.
you can get a 2br apt in Porto or Lisbon for $1300/mo; health insurance for $300 per person. Food is also cheaper, as are things like internet (I currently pay $100 for internet), eating out, etc.
private health insurance plans with no deductibles... couple in their 60s will pay around $300. Many medical professionals, especially in the private sector, are fluent in English. Expats also have access to the public healthcare system, where some services and prescriptions are offered at no charge, while others are minimal.
Expats find themselves paying next-to-nothing for life-sustaining medications such as insulin in Portugal compared to costs escalating as high as $1,000 per month in the U.S.

Portugal seems to be a front runner for US Citizens
Why is that? Portugal has recently changed its laws for expats, both for citizenship and taxation. Many of the expats who moved there feel deeply unhappy and deceived. Of course, some still haven’t gotten the message and continue to move there. It’s no paradise.
It's a lot better than here in terms of col, and of course, the weather is beautiful. Maybe they know something you don't.
Not true. It rains constantly in winter and is scorching hot in summer. And there is very inadequate heat and a/c. Have you ever been there?
I have actually. A friend lives there with her kids and elderly parents. They love it there. We're both originally from CA. Portugal has a Mediterranean climate.
I ran the numbers, and we can live VERY well on 6k per month. So, even with the 50% tax rate (which it isn't), we would need $140K per year, and that's just the two of us. We can sneeze out $140K without even touching the principal in our investments.
My friend said they live on about $140K per year (gross), family of 6, but they don't live in the city center.
Rain is nbd. Have you looked outside your window? The ice is still 6" thick, and I've seen several areas where the sidewalk has yet to be shoveled. We went for a walk, having to go through the rigamarole of bundling up, and had to walk on the street to avoid the icy sidewalks. I'll take rain over this any day.
