I expected my HS kid would get some assignments from teachers, but so far, nothing. Granted, Monday was a scheduled no school/teacher grading day, but shouldn't HS kids be asked to do some sort of work tomorrow/Thurs (and Friday if that ends up being cancelled as well)? Other DC in private school had asynchronous work today and will again tomorrow.


Sounds like you should’ve sent both kids to private school.

Because virtual doesn't work for a large percentage of students and subjects. You'd have to add days to the year anyway.


True, but it's awful for HS students in MCPS who are being judged against students nationwide, many of them who have school districts that start at the end of the July or beginning of August. MCPS students are losing a lot of education, and their AP test scores will show that.


They are AP students-highly capable of studying on their own during these free days. Stop complaining.

This is less likely a big deal for folks and Bethesda. They are more likely to have white collar jobs where you can work from home. They also are more likely to have the means to be able to pay for alternative childcare without it being a huge financial hit.

Although you love to pretend that it is the Rich complaining, this decision is actually more a burden on folks with lesser means.


On FB, the only people I see complaining are “MoCo Rich”. I.E. not really wealthy, (in fact, often very house poor) but hella entitled.

Everyone else is making child care arrangements with neighbors, friends, and family.


I mean, yes, well-off entitled people are more likely to complain publicly when things don't go the way they want. But that doesn't mean that politer people aren't just as inconvenienced and upset (or more so.)

Ditch the Apple weather app. There never was a storm Friday, and the storm that is potentially hitting on Saturday has had its odds of a hit lowered.


Seriously, do these people look at 20 weather apps and just find one that says what they want it to say regardless of inaccuracy? The “storm” is Saturday and every day gets less and less likely to even happen at all.

My kids are doing Khan Academy - both math and ELA.

Not all childcare centers are closed. Yes, the ones in schools, but not every single childcare center is closed. If you have a job that demands you be available during these times, it would probably be best to find different childcare arrangements. It isn't that hard.

Claiming that plenty of other childcare options exist does not make it so.
Rec-center based before/after care option near my elementary does not operate during all the many (many, many, many) MCPS non-student days and early dismissal days.
Home-based care isn’t a good fit for everyone, nor are there sufficient spots under that model for kids current in before/after care in school buildings.


+1000. MoCo isn’t New York City. There aren’t lots of before/after care options in most neighborhoods. My kids are past the childcare years, the only option for group care was at the kids’ elementary school. And it was expensive. To have it closed for a week must be very frustrating to parents who pay hundreds of dollars a month to have that backup care.

I have about 25% new students in my classes for second semester. Most kids were in my class 1st semester but they all shell gamed around. Maybe only 10% of them stayed same teacher same period.
