I just ran into trader joes for a few things, because I have to do a big Costco run tomorrow (also have 3 teenagers!). It was wild in there. But most of the food they sell will totally be expired by Sunday! Their food goes bad so fast!

Hopefully we don't have any snow in February

I’m sure everyone is looking forward to the break. Ideally it would be a regular 5 day school week and feel more like a break but I will take it!

Yesterday they said that they were pretty sure we would get an inch but that the models were still all over the place. I am waiting for their prediction because the models have everything from no snow to 22 inches.

No one else saw the one inch thing. Time to move on.

They did say 1inch at one point yesterday so you can believe us or move on yourself

The total predicted snow for this weekend was never 1 inch. Move on yourself.

+1 CWG had 4 scenarios and none of them included one inch.

Do you not regularly shop for a week? You can absolutely buy food on Wednesday that will still be good on Monday.

I have three teenagers and one fridge. I shop 3-4 times a week. We go through 6-7 gallons of milk in a week.

Not joking, do you have room for a second fridge? Or a neighbor who could keep a couple of gallons of milk for you?

Carrots, potatoes apples, oranges, etc all will be fine way over a week. Bananas and berries go bad much faster. Bread - you can freeze it.

MIL kept bananas in the fridge. Bread, too.

Lots of veggies last a long time. Beets. Brussesls sprouts. Dried beans last what seems like forever.

Cabbage.

My parents were iced in for a week--no power. Could not even walk outside. Roads impassable. (This was the South) Full freezer and gas stove. Sat in the kitchen with water boiling on the stove and ate very well. Otherwise, pretty miserable.

Do you...freeze produce and bread?

You can freeze bread, it actually freezes and thaws pretty well. I guess buy hardier produce? Potatoes, carrots, onions, apples, and oranges stay good longer.

Regardless, even if we do get 10-12” of snow I don’t think it will be too difficult to clear. It’s going to be COLD. This is going to fall as light powder, not a heavy sticky mess. There will be no natural slight melting and re-freezing either. Not with highs in the mid-20s at most and lows in the teens or single digits. Then again, I’m always shocked at how poorly some of the roads are treated here and there is definitely an “eh just let it melt” mentality at times. But hopefully with all this advance warning, the road crews take it more seriously so you can get to the stores by Tuesday after the storm if needed.

Same. I am amazed anyone's families can shop just once a week.

Um. You can freeze bread or put it in the fridge to make it last longer…

A lot of produce goes in the fridge and things like onions, potatoes, apples, and citrus can sit on your counter for a week+

Just don’t buy bananas.
