I am glad someone said something about Dana's accent, I'm watching ep 3 and it's almost as bad as someone trying to do a Boston accent

TBF some accents are really hard to do correctly

Sometimes you have to be Edie Falco to do Edie Falco I guess.

Mel was great S1, I just hope they don't make her spectrum qualities unnecessarily over define her character aka the Marlee Matlin treatment.

I guess S2 has wrapped filming, though, so we shall find out

Ps I also hope they don't define Dr. Langdon only by his addiction ... I felt like they did Noah Wyle dirty like that in ER

Oh but so much message signaling. She’s Jewish! And was traumatized by the Tree of Life mass shooting! (that occurred in her lifelong neighborhood at her lifelong place of worship that deeply affected the tight Squirrel Hill Jewish community and Jews and empathetic people everywhere)

I think it was to communicate her experience of PTSD and her recognition of bot being okay in Robby. She deals with fireworks around holidays, Robby comes to work at the place where his trauma occurred.

And, this pains me, but I think they're trying too hard with Dana and Mel. I think they were clear fan favorites, so they're accentuating their quirks, when last season, they came across as very natural. Dana's accent is now so strong that I'm having trouble understanding her. And the beauty of Mel's performance in the first season was that her neurodivergence was so subtle. I understand that she is stressed right now, but her quirks are over the top.

I agree with you about Mel. Last season, she was a great doctor AND neurodiverse. This season, they are letting her ND swamp her doctoring. And who has a deposition on July 4?

Yeah, I feel like the writers got a little lazy. While watching last night it occurred to me that it’s still only 9 am and so many of the situations make it seem like it’s later in the day:

the little girl’s fall would have had to happen in the middle of the night. And where was her father all night?
The wife of the couple in the car accident said something about them arguing all day but to make it to the ER at 9am would mean the accident was around 8am
The college kid in the library early am? First, it’s the summer…second, the college library wouldn’t be open at 8am on a holiday.

Re the girl with all the bruises. I guess they wanted to show that the dad was "innocent" and sure, he may not have abused her, but he's still showing that he's a lousy father. He'd only been with his girlfriend for 6 months!

Seems like this season is more “message” heavy- on parenting, drug use, Tree of Life. Not all bad but different.

Just finished the latest episode (season 2, episode 3) and I’m still hooked:

Louie is so much a goner

Joy the new student is growing on me

The Asian couple had me in tears

I agree Dana’s accent seems to have been amped up and it seems more artificial. Feels like she’s doing a bit.

I identify w Dr. Al Hashimi to some extent because she’s trying to be a leader but stepping on toes a bit, but also is very caring, obviously.

I like all the last season med students: Mel, Whitaker, etc.

Man that brain mass guy and the divorced wife coming in was also crazy and sad.

I found the dad’s scene with the nose beads badly acted by everyone except the recovering addict guy.

His replacement is such an annoying character. Not in a good way. I love Mel and the nurses.

Didn’t love Druggie Doctor burdening the patient with a confession about stealing the guy’s pain pills. Wtf?

10000% inappropriate on multiple levels.

The liability alone. Hospital would have fired him on the spot.

For the drug use or telling the patient? Agree on the former but no one else knows he apologized to the patient.

Louis is likely to be discreet but if he weren't and talked openly about it, all hell would break loose.

It's new and overdone but what is it supposed to be? It's certainly not Pittsburgh. I don't recall if the character has another background that could account for the accent.
