"We did it reddit" is a common saying there, so I guess "We did it DCUM(AD)"

Short answer- nope.

The reaction to Rolex in general here speaks to status, jealousy and spite.

LOL - people value things differently. I could make 100 million and I'd never wear a Rolex. I also won't hold up someone on a pedestal because they're wearing one. Different strokes for different folks

No way. Any actual parent of a 15 year old knows they'll lose that in 10 minutes tops.

I’d be much more concerned about a kid who WANTS a Rolex.

The plan was to give it to my son on his 16th birthday in March of 2027. Friends told me it can take a while to get one. Out of the blue I got a call this weekend. The watch arrived Friday afternoon. Am I crazy to give it to him for his 15th birthday?

This must be a joke. I hope it is.

Well ... you don't have to put your "name on a list for a Rolex." You can walk into Lenkersdorfer at the mall and come out with one. No one is going to tell you "it can take quite a while to get one." It isn't a teal crocodile Birkin or something. So yeah, either a joke or invented for some purpose other than laughs.

True, you can walk into Lenkersdorfer an buy a watch. We want to get a specific submariner for son's college graduation -- we purchased our watches Lenkersdorfer. My husband was picking up his watch after getting it serviced and chatting with the rep. For certain watches, there is approximately an 18 month backlog. We ordered the watch -- it will take approx 12 months to arrive -- the store will call us and give us "first right of refusal" when it arrives if we don't want it they will stock it in the display case.

We have NW $6M, and live in a UMC/UC suburb of a major city (not in DC area).

For me, 15 is too young for an expensive gift that really only serves as a flex. Generally speaking, I think about what a gift like that would do to my kid’s character. Will he put his identity/confidence in having things that most other kids can’t afford? Will he be dissatisfied if he can’t afford the same later in life?

Watches are back in style for young men....16 is too young for a Rolex. Look at a Tag -- we got one for our DS at 16, better price point, sporty and stylish. He could wear it with a suit or casual. He is now a Jr in college and wears it daily. He loves it. DS has said that a nice watch is one of the few ways for young men to make a fashion statement.

Our kid was a responsible teenager, but did not "earn" a Rolex. He admires his Dad's rolex and knows it is something special. We plan to give DS a rolex for college graduation. Have talked to our jeweler where we've purchased all our watches and are on a list ---
