I think that is not for the BoE or MCPS to worry about. They don't set home price values. Their focus is on best use of resources to enable best education for ALL students. Everything else is noise.

Theoretically, people that would have bought in Wootton because of the school might be inclined to look over in RHS, since they'll have roughly the same scholastic performance, so my house might increase in value, since my house is so much larger and newer than the Wootton houses.

I don’t think you went to the meeting at all based on your description. not a single person was for H and every single neighborhood in the cluster was represented. And I didn’t hear a single person mention property values. But it was clear that the majority is against H, including the students.

You don't have to believe me. What I am saying is that there is not a clear consensus. When they did roll call and tables upon tables of Fallsmead parents screamed and other schools had just a few people raising their hands, it shows it was not attended evenly. Obviously Fallsmead has more at stake with location so this makes sense. Just because your table didn't talk property value doesn't mean it didn't happen elsewhere. I am telling you there are many people that have a real concern about building safety and just want kids out of the building ASAP. They want H because they don't trust MCPS to make the building safe any other way. You can ignore that if it makes you more comfortable. They may not have been there in large numbers last night but I guarantee they are filling out the surveys.

How did MCPS get Wootton in the first place. Are they going to sell or otherwise reallocate the space. It'd make an awesome sportsplex.

I think that's one of the concerns parents have though.

At first most people in the Wootton area thought option H didn't sound bad.

But then the talk started about how more students from the Gaithersburg area, it was stated 1000, would be brought in and would likely result in a current Wootton feeder school getting squeezed out.

So even if this wouldn't be until the future, some families are looking at this from a long term perspective.

Then MCPS is continuously revising and changing things. I haven't been following things but to me these four new options came out of nowhere. So who's to say they won't come out with new options that expands on some of the current ones or are more along the lines of what people are saying the goals are. And if you're currently in one of the regions that get bussed to Wootton, who's to say that your area won't get selected to get rezoned to another school to make room for the students from the Gaithersburg area?

In some of the other threads you see how some people comment how they didn't expect things to be on the table like they are. ie some of the areas currently in the QO area didn't expect to go to not get assigned to Crown HS and also get assigned to Gaithersburg HS instead. And I'm guessing a lot of families who live near Wootton didn't think that closing the current Wootton building was an option that MCPS would consider.

So I'd be a little bit careful of sitting back and thinking that your area would be unaffected by any changes. Unless you are okay with whatever possibilities there may be. ie it's not an issue to you if your area gets rezoned to QO, RM or maybe your area gets split off to the new Crown school while they rest of the Wootton area stays with Wootton, which is okay if it's not an issue to you. But it's an issue for some parents and why they're raising concerns.

Did you go to the Town Hall last night?

Certain Wootton clusters are making a lot of noise but they don't speak for everyone. I'm from one of the clusters that would be on a bus no matter what and I'm fine with option H. I think this adding 1000 kids is a rumor/misinterpretation of what was actually said at the meeting. Crown can hold about 2200 kids right now period. There is no funding now to build it out further. If the county decides they need more capacity in ten years maybe they build on the adjacent land and max out the 2700 seats. Good luck with finding the money and kids to fill anytime soon though.
