Wow, racist and ageist all in one post. Want to go for three with some sexism thrown in?

ZERO sent, ZERO received. I feel so free of this outdated tradition. I'm grateful my network seems to have finally moved on.

It’s part of kin-keeping. Yes, it is labor, mostly performed by women. But the purpose is kin-keeping, and if you are doing zero types of kin-keeping (actual holiday cards are not required, but it takes many forms), don’t complain about not having family/community connections.

Yes, it is admittedly a class thing…but that should be right up Dcumlandia’s alley.

We'll still get photo cards from family and some friends but not nearly as many as in years past. IDK, we probably have received about 5 or so and will end up with around 20?

Merry Christmas!

We’ve also stopped sending them but it’s hard to know if we’ve been dropped or other people just made the same decision that we did. We also have received about 5 and I doubt we will receive more than 15 total.

you've been dropped. cards are expensive. after 2-3 years of sending and not receiving (basically, as soon as i notice it), i stop sending. it's no fun to spend 100 bucks on cards and not even get enough in return to decorate my mantle nicely. so now i spend half that.

Oh yes, giving is all about what you get back, and greetings and good wishes are about standing there with wide eyes and pursed lips, making sure the other person says it back. It is a complete mystery why this process brings you no joy.

People like to be thought of and appreciated. That is one purpose among others.

I feel thought of and appreciated by the very few cards that someone has taken the time to even hand-write a very short greeting. Otherwise, if it went straight from your computer to Minted to the post and you didn’t even touch it, I feel absolutely nothing. It’s like someone printed out a Facebook post, like, OK.

That’s totally fine and does not hurt my feelings. It’s been so freeing not sending them at all, if it’s a burden to you I highly recommend it.

I still send a couple cards to elderly relatives with a 4x6 family photo inside and a nice personalized message. As I’m approaching 50, I’ve realized the amount of people in the world I am truly connected to is not that many and that’s just fine.

We pared down our list again this year. I think we sent about 40. We’ve received 6 so far. Last year we received about 15 cards. I miss the days of getting dozens in the mail every December.
