Mmm. The same Sepp Blatter who was FIFA president from 1998 to 2015 so was in charge when in 2010 when FIFA controversially voted to award the hosting rights for the 2018 World Cup to Qatar even though he was well aware about the treatment of Migrants in Qatar and discriminative LGBT+ laws?

The same Sepp Blatter who has been banned from FIFA until 2027 due to corruption probes?

The same Sepp Blatter who USA goalie Hope Solo accused of sexual assault in 2017 Solo said in an interview with the Portuguese newspaper Expresso that Blatter grabbed her butt during FIFA’s Ballon d’Or awards ceremony in January 2013. “I had Sepp Blatter grab my ass,” Solo said.”It was at the Ballon D’or one year, right before I went on stage."

The same Sepp Blatter who said in January 2004 female footballers should wear “more feminine clothes.” “Let the women play in more feminine clothes like they do in volleyball,” he said at the time...They could, for example, have tighter shorts."

Yeah. For sure should be taken seriously.

He is better vs Trump and republicans. What the f. You republicans actually think you are moral and upstanding individuals?

you will be one of few. Have a terrible time.

What would make you think stadiums for the biggest sporting event in the world won’t be full?

The stadiums in Mexico and Canada will be full.

They’ll be full in the U.S. and you’ll be pouting for a month.

Maybe as detention camps.

I doubt they will boycott though they should. What I’d like to see happen is protests outside stadiums and for it to be a big pr black eye for the country. (Not that we don’t have those in abundance, but this would embarrass Trump.)

Why would fans come here when you can go to Canada or Mexico instead? Our skies are not safe, and Trump will send his goons to host cities to round up brown people. Who would want to witness that? And I could totally see teams deciding not to risk coming here and having their players and loved ones killed or detained.

My city is hosting. People are excited about the infrastructure improvements. But I have heard lots of people say things like “…that soccer thing happening this summer.” Our mls team does have a huge fanbase, but it is very liberal. So many of us lost interest when fifa bent the knee to Trump.

I had signed up to volunteer, which was supposed to be highly competitive. I have just ignored all the emails inviting me for an interview. I have now received about half a dozen saying “LAST CHANCE to come for an interview! Last chance!” So I’m thinking it’s not as competitive as expected.

I was really excited about it but Trump ruins everything. Everything. Everything.

Yep. Dh and I were super excited and planned on going to multiple cities. Now we can’t even get excited about matches in our own city and fear that it will bring Trump’s gestapo here.

Players and teams need to boycott....we need a loud and clear message given. Most countries are horrified but what they see America becoming. America is killing it's citizens.

Oh, it’s true. Go to the FIFA website and check out the hospitality packages. Many are sold out. If you want a luxury box for all of the New Jersey matches the price is $2.3M (this includes the World Cup Final).

With a few exceptions, those are purchased by corporations and used as glad-handing tools.

Maybe it will sell out to Americans. But I know a number of people who typically go to World Cup events and have for decades and this time they're buying tickets but are committing to attend and are fully prepared to skip it. Sepp Blatter just called for people to boycott it.

You don’t realize how popular football (soccer to Americans) is in the rest of the world. There are an astounding number of rich people around the world who will fly to the US see their team play.

They don’t care about undocumented people. In most other countries they are picked up and deported without due process.
