The typical DCUM poster’s dream day on a holiday.

Actually it is. One day to rest after traveling Wednesday and socializing all day Thursday and more tomorrow. Then travel back on Sunday.

Nope, everyone came in last night for dinner and left this afternoon.

Must the grandkids come along? I mean why now? Why not when you aren’t there

God forbid people REST during a holiday BREAK.

If everyone was “on” yesterday, it makes sense that they are OFF today. Enjoy the peace and quiet.

God rest ye merry gentlemen…
Silent night…
The little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay…
…the silent stars go by…
The world in solemn stillness lay to hear the angels sing…

My ILs never turn their 2 TVs off. Plus a police scanner.
When I first married my husband and would visit, I would turn the TVs off only for 5 minutes later to be asked who turned it off and why.
They cannot live without background noise.
It is hard for me to hear & follow conversations when there is so much background noise.

Omg the police scanner 😂😂😂😂

That is funny…

As a guest, it’s rude to turn the TV off without asking.
At our Thanksgiving yesterday, some of the grandparents wanted the TV off, but the younger set and other grandparents wanted to watch football. They turned the volume down but left the game on. All 22 guests had a great time. Everyone was just chatting and laughing, when someone accidentally sat on the remote and the TV turned off. In that 10 seconds, you could hear a pin drop. 😁

We bought air mattress to sleep on for the office that use as bedroom when visit- has worked great for years. Couple weeks ago told great news! office is now an actual bedroom- put bed in it. Just arrived…. The bed is a day bed from converted crib and they put in a love seat sofa in same room so not enough floor space to use mattress. We'll be doing a quiet run for sleeping bags under guise of getting more ice!

Is it possible they’re actually trying to discourage guests from sleeping over?

It’s crazy to me that grown adults would go through the subterfuge of sneaking out to buy sleeping bags and spend multiple nights sleeping on the floor rather than just getting a hotel room.

DP. My ILs live in a rural area - nearest motel is 35 minute drive. There are 3 air BnBs within reasonable distance. One is great, but usually booked up. One was absolutely disgusting- we left an hour after arriving. First clue was muddy boot prints in the kitchen, then dirty dishes left in the oven, then looked under the comforter to see small pubic like hairs all over the pillow and sheets. The third pace is very basic, lacked sufficient heating (they had it set to like 62 and controlled so it could not be adjusted) and was not worth the $300 per night cost.
One year they tried renting a camper to fit my family but their home could not power it, and the camper had ants.
Another year they rented us a cabin at a nearby state park, but it had no heat, which is not good in cold weather.

My ILs live 2.5 hours away. When kids were younger, we would stay there, but as the family got larger and older, having 6 cousins sleep in the living room was not comfortable or fun. The last few years we made it a day trip.
MIL complained about how we leave so early and she doesn’t get to relax and play games with us. Fair point.
So we stayed overnight. And she played one card game and one round of Pictionary. She happened to not win either, so she quit. Me, my SIL, and our kids played several more rounds. And she complained about us being noisy.
Can’t win. Not staying overnight next year.
