It sounds like sour grapes/copium, but I think DC's chosen school is a much better match than their ED school, and I think DC is more confident because DC had the opportunity to compare that school with others through admitted student weekends etc.
Anyhow, if your DC gets in ED, that's wonderful and will save you a lot of time and energy this spring! But, if not, don't fret and please don't feel the need to panic-apply in ED2!
