You clearly never lived in Boston. I worked at Wilmer Hale there . Yes, Harvard is big, but so is BC. MIT not so much, they are probably working away at start ups and labs.

Further, why do you care? There is something wrong with adults who spend significant time here railing against various colleges. Get a life.

^+1 Boston is an Ivy city not a BU/ BC run area.

BC is ranked top 10 in finance and investment banking majors in the country.

Tulane and Wake alums I know also are all very successful and have connections.

Impress potential employers or carry prestige socially ...

Every job interview I went to in my 20s and most people I met that heard that I was a Wake alum all commented on how it's a really good school and I must be really smart. It's not MIT, but I wasn't planning a tech career. When I was there, at least 1/3 of the entering freshman came in pre-med.

Which employers and social circles is that poster even referring to?

I have no idea about prestige in social circles (who cares), but my Tulane DC got a ton of interviews for summer internships while in school based solely on the name of school and alum connections. It has a really good reputation in NYC finance/marketing/PR. So I think you have no idea what you are talking about. Graduated within the last 2 years and currently working in NYC post-grad with so many other Tulane kids. Employers do like Tulane grads. Generally, they are smart and socially adept.

First I agree that these are all good schools. Second, i think most disagreement comes from the changes with time. 20 years ago, Tulane was among top universities but the ranking declined now. Similarly, WashU and Emory used to be in top 10 in 1990 and now after 20th. The opposite examples are USC and Northeastern. 20-30 years ago, there was no way to put them along with elite schools, but now you see how hard to get in. Things are changing except for HYPM. So for school out of HYPM, it’s more important to see what you want and what it offers instead of comparing prestige.

I worked in Boston for six years. If anything, BC has a stronger reputation in Boston than elsewhere.

It depends on how you judge reputation. BC started as a local school and educated future politicians and judges. US Senator Ed Markey, John Kerry, Marty Walsh, Boston mayors,Massachusetts Governors, . Mass Supreme Court justices, ordinary judges. It has a good reputation.

Games what? Tufts has a 42% ED acceptance rate. That includes both ED1 and 2.

who cares. two undesirable schools.

Undesirable with almost 40k in applications? Emory makes ABC nightly news with common announcements to financial aid. Only elite schools are capable of that.

If you have saved and care about student life, access to professors not TA, in person classes vs online, facilities, etc etc basically the entire experience of attending the college, you pay for private. Doesn’t matter what usnews says in terms of rank.

University of Michigan is popular amongst students and parents and the school is huge. I loved my small college but it’s not for everyone. Some kids thrive in a large university with its energy and meeting new people all the time.

Anonymous wrote:There's a pretty big gap between Tufts and Tulane. Only 13% submitted an SAT to Tulane, or only 230 freshman. Of those, only 57 scored above 1500.

Contrast with Tufts, 38% submitted an SAT score, or 687 freshman. Of these, about 60% scored above 1500, for a total of 900 students.

Student quality is much higher at Tufts.

The majority of Tufts students are from the northeast, mostly Massachusetts, New York, Connecticut , students who typically went to better K-12 schools than most of the US. Tulane has local and students from all over the US but their statistics aren’t as good.

Their lower endowments make me concerned they'll lose brand power in the Trump era; while costing the same as T20/25 schools. If DC can't get into Georgetown or similar, should they just go to UMD?

I mean, if your DC gets admitted, OP.
