Are you saying that the least we can do is sit in church for an hour, given that Jesus died for our sins? What if you don't believe that Jesus - or anyone - died for our sins?

Op does. So yeah. It makes sense for her.

Lots of people believe that Jesus died for their sins, but they still don't attend church regularly. A lot of them are right here on DCUM.

This thread is wild, with a lot of judgment.

OP, I wonder if your expectations are what’s making this hard? Usually when I am feeling like it’s all a mess, I’ve put expectations on my kids or myself that aren’t reasonable or helpful.

Could you experiment with different ways of thinking about the Sunday routine? For example, let the kids dress themselves and wear whatever. Bring coloring sheets and let them play during church. If you are worried about other people, could you find a way to let that go, or find another church that makes you feel more comfortable to “come as you are?”

Right there with you but for synagogue on Saturdays. I’m always happy once I’m there but it means giving up the only day I have to sleep in, and putting in nicer clothes when a weekend day would normally call for jeans and a hoodie and no makeup.

We have been doing mostly every other week which is a good enough compromise. With a teen and tween it hasn’t been too hard getting out of the house as long as the girl picks out her clothes the night before.

Everything is "man-made"

Some people think that stuff in the Bible is commanded by God.
