Except the mother doesn't get the same break. He literally parks near my house for 8+h a day sometimes. I MAJORLY feel for his wife, who has to deal with the household while he fu**s off and just literally sits in his car.

Different people have different needs and maybe he is managing his stress in a non-harmful way. The specific balance is decided between the two partners and not a neighbor. Who are you to judge?

Do you dislike your house? I completely get this if you have obligations at home you are not quite ready to deal with when enthralled by an audiobook or podcast, but am puzzled by why you’d do this if you live alone and can set your own schedule.

I would be a little skeeved out OP. Feels like he is watching for someone or something based on their routine.

Probably keeps the car running to keep the heat or AC running, and to charge the phone without running the car battery down.

Some people need downtime after work and just enjoy sitting in their car, because there are no obligations. When you get home, especially with family, you are faced with a lot of people/things that need attention.

I listen to a podcast while driving home, and want to keep listening until it's done. Or I want to make phone calls. Or people watch.

Maybe weird but it's something I enjoy.

Listening to a story on NPR, wants to hear the end, amd so, and would rather look at a field than his driveway while waiting for it to end. Wants the AC on (or heat in winter), so doesn't want to turn off the engine. I've been known to sit in my driveway for a few minutes doing the same

No idea, OP. Like you I think it's weird/wonder what possible reason a person would do this and the running of the gas annoys me (poor envir't) but this is one of those 'nothing you can do about it' scenarios.

I guess I'd assume he's taking calls with family that are so negative that he doesn't want the mojo- in the house so he'd rather be away in a protective car bubble. I realize that likely ounds weird, but I think his behaviour is also really weird.

We live near a graveyard and there are multiple pull ups/stop with motor running awhile scenarios and I tell myself they are shift workers or people with miserable families who just want a minute alone or people visiting their dead loved ones after hours without getting out but us neighbours talk and we think a lot are drug deals (good neighbourhood but it's just so weird to us).

I think Pokemon go is an option too. Our HS kids will pull over and play at weird places and the graveyard here apparently has a lot of cool dead pokemon, may they rest in peace.

I love sitting in my car. It’s peaceful and cozy, I have everything I need within arms reach, it’s like sitting in a favorite chair. But with a view.

I did go through a pokemon go phase and had a favorite spot for the game and use that same spot now for listening to podcasts or reading a book while drinking coffee with a view of a lake and lots of trees. The car is more comfortable than a park bench.
