Yeah they also don’t pay for college or medical school, and they graduate years earlier bc they attend professional school right out of high school. Single payer also means they do not face the same malpractice risk or insurance costs.

Wow. Being a well-earning carpenter is not anti-science. In fact, they require a good understanding of materials and math.

An advanced degree doesn’t mean you’re smart or worthy of high pay. Tell us how deserving you are because of your vocational degree (which is what an MD is) is superior to a plumber when your pipes backup. Hope he/she charges you triple because you are so deserving.

A good carpenter is like a really good tailor or seamstress. They can fit and make anything look great.
A bad carpenter is like the Korean dry cleaner's seamstress by the front window that does a hack job on your garment. It's OK for low price garments but you're not going to give them work on your suit from Hugo Boss.

Sure, Physicians are like the Big Contractor that drives the shiny truck. But seriously, I don't think Doctors really understand how great they aren't. When it comes to how much staff they have to have how well trained their staff has to be how many drugs and prescriptions. Insurance companies. Large hospitals. Expensive equipment. Lab space etc. Carpenter needs a few saws and hammers or what not you can fit them in a truck.

The carpenter would probably make very neat and clean stitches.

I read that the post-surgery recovery has extended in recent years because doctors lack fine motor skills so there's a fair amount of bruising when they are in your body doing work. Back in the day kids worked with their hands. Today it's all keyboard and thumbs and those repetitive motions are the motor skills that go into medicine these days.

Many many doctors become sick from their work and many died from COVID they caught from patients you know.

He works alone, has no employees. Out of my $124/hr I also have to pay retirement, insurance (health, disability), plus umbrella not included, commuting, taxes, etc. None of which are deductible against income.


Just because he didn’t go to medical school doesn’t mean his trade doesn’t require specific skills and knowledge and have its own licensing requirements. You want your carpenter to know how to ensure your walls and house aren’t going to fall down. It’s gross that people look down on the trades when they are every bit as needed as other fields.


Yup. And based on the caliber of doctors I’ve seen lately, I am far more impressed with the skills being a carpenter takes.

There’s a lot of talk here from people who don’t have a lot of friends and family in the trades. I can tell you they’re doing very well. They live essentially debt free other than the young ones early in their careers with mortgages.

We had a European medical student do a shadowship in our DC-area hospital. Both his parents were surgeons in Europe. His eyes bugged out when he heard the salaries MDs here were making.

Like I said I can't afford a doctor or a carpenter.
