I live in Region 5. I read these forums but have nothing to do with BRAC. If I were a betting person, I would suggest that earlier speculation about the "3rd" member of one of the pyramids in Region 5 encouraged this. I doubt anyone from my pyramid did this.

I would suggest that Marshall is in Region 1 and some of those neighborhoods along route 7 are adjacent to Marshall neighborhoods. If they want to be sent to Langley, that would be a possibility.

Also, if you are in a pyramid for one school, but your elementary school is in another region--which region do you go with on BRAC?

Your region is dictated by your high school boundary, so multiple regions may have vested interest in split feeder elementary or middle schools even though the school is technically only assigned to one region and one pyramid.

All of these rezoning proposals are based on fall 2024 enrollment

A lot of things have changed since then.

It will be interesting to see the enrollment numbers after a month of school has passed.

The one with kids in the pyramud just wanted them to get rid of IB so smart kids stop transferring out of Lewis, and a renovation of the facilities.

The empty nester wanted FCPS to move an entire WSHS elementary school into Lewis, assuming to raise her property values since her kids were long graduated. She did acknowlege that wouldn't actually fix anything because those kids would use the IB loophole to transfer, with Lewis then looking at 500 transfers out of the school instead of the current 250+/- IB to AP transfers.

I think the people actually zoned to Lewis want to be an AP school with nice facilities so their neighbors stop transferring to other schools.

+1 move Lewis and McLean up in the renovation list and give them nice new facilities. Dump IB for a full slate of AP classes at Lewis and keep the extra capacity for if and when a bunch of development comes to the current/soon to be former police station and government center area on Franconia Rd. Stop the bleeding out and get the students who should be going there to return vs. pupil placing out to Hayfield, LB, or wherever else.

The next renovation queue should prioritize Annandale, McLean, and Lewis in that order. Annandale was built in 1954, McLean in 1955, and Lewis in 1958. They also ought to let people know whether the KAA purchase will delay or accelerate renovations to those schools.

Ok then prove it. Show me a strong statement from an HOA, PTA, community organization etc. from one of those pyramids that says, we are advocating for students currently zoned for West Springfield, Edison, Langley etc. to be moved to our schools because we think it will improve our school’s status and our test scores. Not a more general “of course we welcome everyone” statement. I look forward to your proof!

Sure. I’m in the Herndon Pyramid. You are correct. As far as I know, nobody is advocating against moving kids from Forestville to Herndon. However, nobody is organized to redistrict Forestville to Herndon either. We’re just doing the best we can here. Not complaining too much. Most of our families have more imminent needs, like making ends meet, and possibly even keeping their family units together

I am ok with redistricting some Forestville kids to Herndon, especially those that live less than three miles away. I am not writing letters to fcps, or organzing HOAs, though. I choose to out my energy elsewhere.

Just FYI, we do have some affluent families that attend Herndon, and we all get along just fine. It’s not about the money. Some may just not want new entitled, disgruntled kids who might look down at our diverse community.
