The DMV bias here is so strong. Plenty of people turn down Hopkins for Emory. Especially those that want to enjoy college. Hopkins is a grind.
Definitely. DCs and all I applied to Emory, would never have been interested in Hopkins. Emory at least has normal, smart, social, attractive students. Hopkins is just stem bots in an atrocious neighborhood. Hard pass.
lol same emory booster posting multiple times. sad
lol not a booster, I am the one who visited who liked but didn't love it! But everything abt Hopkins is just dreary.
I don’t understand why some people here are trying to convince others to stop bashing Emory by bashing Hopkins instead. These are both good schools. Neither is dreary. Both have great student bodies with many happy and impressive students doing a lot of normal college things, including parties and sports and spending time in their respective urban areas. I’ve spent lots of time at both and they both have lovely campuses. Many different, but some overlapping, strong academic programs. Spreading mean and untrue stereotypes about Hopkins isn’t convincing anyone here to like Emory better. I love both schools.

3k students who felt like they couldn't get in anywhere better
You're not smart. Over 50% of students that enroll at Emory are accepted ED. That means Emorys median test scores are decided before the RD round. Which also means students with a 1510 are applying ED to Emory, but somehow they couldn't get into anywhere else?
Yes, 3k students would totally turn down emory if they had a better shot at top 15 schools. only 80% of emory's class is in the top 10% where as it is 95%ish plus at other top schools. It's also why yield is at 40% despite all that scholarship money and alternate campus gaming.
15% of freshman: https://provost.emory.edu/planning-administration/_includes/documents/sections/institutional-data/emory-common-data-set-2024-2025.pdf
Again, the freshman stats are not impressive. 25% of freshman had GPAs under a 3.74. Only 80% were ranked in top 10%. Emory's freshman are a cut below those of actual top schools.
It's cool to group Emory in with Duke, Vandy, Hopkins, Northwestern etc but then there's reality.

how about you compare 3.7/510 for other schools then. this is a farce
Other schools wouldn’t write committee letter if they don’t think you have a chance. Hard to find data on this for other schools. If you have any information, please share.
Washu has no committee but has a 85% acceptance rate. Plenty of schools like this. 65% is pathetic.

You're an idiot it says right there that the avg is a 3.7 and a 512.
Yes, 85% of all premed applicants at wustl have those stats. So are premeds at emory dumber? yes.

Page 86. Emory has a 20% acceptance rate from Montgomery County schools and significantly lower yield than all of the above. All others are low single digit acceptance rates.
