As an elementary teacher in another school, this frustrates me as we are expected to welcome all new students. We don’t get a bonus day to plan/get ready. Just one more way the teachers in “rich” schools get more breaks.

Backpack so they can sort of experience the damn load they will endure on their backs for the next four years. It's different than middle school. They can also stick their lunch in the bag and keep papers and other stuff.

Looking at the activities planned for our sixth graders, a full day seems an reasonable amount of time. We have both academic and socioemotional rotations, plus a block with lunch and physical activities.

And every staff member has a role so there’s no inequity in workload between grades.

Will lunch be served? Yes or your bring a lunch from home.

And sending additional communications doesn't help. Send the correct and consistent message!!!

No, it is only for new students at a school. There will not be any classes or programming for them if they are not new. If you drop them off they will have to spend the day sitting in the library or something or shadowing a new student.
