This has got to be a troll. Even if we believe someone might name their child Sharon Eleanor, they'd at least realize their mistake by the time the drugs wore off at the hospital.

No one would actually expect a child to go by either of those names.

Ok OP. I'm the mean pp, in my fifties, and I can see why this poor girl wants a nickname.

I would go with something like Sheri or Ellie or some variation, but what did you expect giving her two fairly recentish old lady names from the 1960s and earlier?

Sorry, OP - Sharon Eleanor is the opposite of a hip name. I would've hated to have the name of a grandmother at 14. Cherry, while too nickname-y for my taste, is way cuter and more youthful than Sharon.

I would also suggest Shay (like the actress Shay Mitchell whose real name is Shannon), Shar or Cher.

Eleanor's not a terrible name. I teach at an elementary school and have had a couple of Eleanors. Some use the full name, some go by Elle or Ellie or Ellen or Nora. One went by Lennie.

Okay so there was quite literally nothing in the post related to sexuality or gender identity but you still see this and decide it's a good opportunity to hate on the LGBTQ+ community? Good god, girl!

Tell her that nicknames have to be bestowed by others and EARNED, they CANNOT be made up by the person themselves. People make fun of people who do that.
