So what does Germantown "being the most competitive" site mean in this context?

There are hundreds of kids trying out, with far less than that in available slots. If your kid is serious about swimming, any of the clubs will help him/her develop solid technique, conditioning, etc... If your kid competes in meets and starts logging A-level times, then take another shot at RMSC.
My kid started at lesser-known club, did well at meets, then tried out again and landed a slot.
It's disappointing for me because I can't afford more than 2x a week at club- I have 2 kids doing it and it's just not affordable. I think they need more than that to ever have a shot at making it.
I feel like I failed them by not signing them up when they were younger, but covid was also going on back then, and I didn't know anything about how swimming works.
Oh well, we will try again next year.
Try swim Montgomery and stroke and turn and do both. Also city of Rockville has an affordable preteam program. Both have financial assistance through the county.

In many cases, it’s not because the swimmer was not qualified, but because we only had 23 spots that we were able to offer and ended up going with 26. Swimmers that were accepted into the group were previously notified.
To give you a better idea of the number of kids we were able to take between both tryouts days, we took 6x8 year olds, 10x7 year olds and 10x6U. All accepted 8’s very fully legal and proficient in all four strokes, a majority of the 7’s were also legal in all four strokes with only a few having minor and very fixable things in either breast or fly, and almost all of the 6U’s were legal in at least 3 strokes.
While we are requesting that accepted and returning swimmer register by 8/10, I can put together a waitlist for those interested if there is room. Please email me if that is the case. In some cases, there are swimmers that were invited but chose not to register. "
Much nicer and more informative than the Germantown rejection
yep, they seem pretty down to earth, although being the most competitive site.
