Goalie development is more than half the battle at that age if you care about final scores.
I totally get your points. They are valid. We did beat teams, that maybe we should not have simply because the goalie position was rotated by field players and or/ the kids who were full time goal keepers still did not master the basics (standing at the near post on corner kicks for example) which resulted in easy goals scored.
I will say you're right and true player development often does not go hand in hand with a winning record.
I saw plenty of kids & teams doing the right things/ who were coached the correct way who did not make it to the finals in the tournament.
