The Ivy boost at this point is really only about international prestige. i.e. people know the Ivies and Oxbridge everywhere. Stanford as well as MIT and Caltech for STEM are the only US schools that are equivalent to and/or superior to the Ivies from that perspective. But that doesn’t mean they’re the best school for your kid or that they produce the best experiences or outcomes.

DS is also eyeing on WashU and has talked to the school coach on recruiting. He was told not to submit an SAT unless it's over 1530. Did your kid submit SAT? If yes, would you mind sharing the score? Thanks.


DS was told 1500 minimum. Did not submit his 1430. Had multiple 5s on AP tests which we did submit but only after “strong” pre-read came back. Applied ED1 and got in. Very strong but not flawless transcript, mostly As, high (but not super high) rigor, one outstanding non-athletic achievement and generally goods ECs. We are all very excited! Such a high quality school in so many ways. DS feels very lucky to have the opportunity.

Our daughter is part of the WashU's class of 2029. A couple of weeks ago we went to an admitted students day in DC and we were told that that the acceptance rate of around 11% this year. We have two other kids and they both went to top 20 schools (Duke and Stanford). We were just as impressed by WashU as the other schools her siblings attended. We believe it is an excellent fit for our daughter. I will just be glad we no longer have to pay tuition in a few years.

WUSTL is great. My kid that wanted the mid-size undergrad focused Ivy (and attends) would have chosen it after those. It’s a great choice for those students who don’t want a large state school like UofM, UNc, UVA, UCLA etc. but larger than a SLAC.

Someone on this site has a grind against WashU. I’m guessing that poster or their child was rejected.

WashU is absolutely a top tier school. One of best undergraduate business schools and premed programs. Acceptance rate for the school was around 11% this year. Higher than ivies but still extremely competitive.

DC is headed to WashU in the fall. Was lucky enough to be a recruited athlete. As a HYP grad, I was really floored by the campus visit. This school is as well resourced as any Ivy. No issues there, wustl's applications have plateaued or even decreasing while pretty much every other top private is growing.

No issues there, wustl's applications have plateaued or even decreasing while pretty much every other top private is growing.
