It’s only a crime if it leads someone to break specific laws. People can express antisemitic or Nazi or racist ideas—they just can’t act on them in a way that breaks a law.


You.cannot attend a.public institution paid for by taxpayer money and spout antisemetic, Nazi, or racist ideas. You may not be.a.criminal, but you can be.expelled or punished in some way.

Have you never seen someone taken into custody before? There isn't anything particularly unusual about this. It's not like they just rolled up, put a bag over her head, and threw her in the back of a van.


Of course I’ve witnesses (virtually) someone being taken into custody. Do I take others into custody as a profession? Do you?

They were undercover unnecessarily. They wore masks covering distinguishing features and no identifying agency wear.

Are ICE raids conducted in this type of uniform in mass deportations? Where is the vest?

And why is she being taken into custody for writing a journalistic opinion piece?

Those are the questions I ponder.

Non-citizens do not have absolute rights, simple legal reality.


They do have a right to due process and the same laws that apply to you and me have to be followed when dealing with immigrants. You don't just get to decide one day that you don't like they have protections under the 1st amendment and arrest everyone that you disagree with. what the hell is wrong with you???


These people—if not trolls-don’t know the very basics of civics and law. They are willing to trump on the constitution if it means they get to stick to certain people.

They weren't protesting just Israel. They were protesting US Government policy/support OF Israel.

And no I wouldn't expect France or the UK to enjoy my political commentary on how they run their own Foreign Policy.

These people are NOT US Citizens, no matter how much everyone tries to pretend that student visas and green cards are exactly the same thing. They aren't.

We know it’s not the same but it does not mean you can skip over due process. We are also telling you that it won’t stop at non-citizens.

Voicing opposition to Israel's policies and the ongoing genocide is not anti semitism. Calling it as such is simply there to silence peoples first amendment rights and dissent


It's also not a crime to hold or express undoubtedly antisemitic views, at least in America.

This! My DC’s close friend at college is Turkish and has noted the same thing. I am shattered by this and ashamed that foreigners come here to study in part because of our academic freedoms but are finding those freedoms are not what they once were. Students are protesting right now in Turkey against the authoritarian regime of Erdogan. What makes us different than Turkey when someone can be snatched off the street by masked individuals and spirited away to a prison with no due process? The similarities between Turkey and the US right now are particularly jarring.

When I was in college abroad my friends from the dorm were going to try to disrupt a fox hunt. It was a regular protest thing in the UK at the time. I didn't go for some reason but didn't hesitate thinking I would be in any more trouble than the UK kids if I did. It's inhumane and I'm an animal lover, why wouldn't I protest?


Because you are a guest of that country, and there by their grace. You are not entitled to be in their country.
