They can and may choose not to take it up so there are both advocacy efforts for when they return and also contingency plans being made.

Some hard lines Republicans have signaled they don't want it taken up. If the WH signals it wants it passed the House almost certainly will pass it but they're another week away from returning so a lot can change.

If you are interested in joining some advocacy efforts, Free DC is one of them, and did a lot of coordination 2 weeks ago at the Senate offices.

Same--ending Home Rule by Congress would result in the federal gov't conducting a "hostile takeover" of the executive branch agencies of DC--including DCPS, OSSE, etc. They would replace their leaders and choose ones that are ideologically-aligned with MAGA. I’m concerned about the House, but it’s worth noting that the Senate passed it unanimously, with Republican Sen. Collins saying that both the White House and House Republican appropriations chair supported the fix. Obviously, there’s no reason to trust any Republican on this, but the fact that they signaled all of that publicly means it should be taken up and pass.

I am hopeful as well. I am at a charter and we have to prepare emergency spending plans that assume it won't pass.

The House does NOT have this bill on the calendar for next week, so emergency planning seems like the right path.

I think you are right. The Mayor agreed to take down BLM plaza so we wouldn't lose funding and we lose funding anyway. So trying to appease the Republicans doesn't work. Let's just spend the money under the assumption that we are going to lose Home Rule either way.

Agree, but one quibble: DC is not 95% Dem. It *is* just 5% Republican, but nearly 20% is Ind leaving about 75% Dem.

And I'm guessing a lot more people in DC would register with no party if we had open or semi-closed primaries.
