Subject: UMD yet?
So is the joke on all of us for overpaying to live in W school districts when our kids could have gotten in with the same profile if we had paid less for housing and stayed in Darnestown or Olney?

This is PP - I meant not that can't transfer APs, meant that there really aren't classes in FC to take.

Not eligible for Baneker/Key but maybe a smaller Dean's Scholarship is possible. Hopefully someone else can weigh in.

I think someone mentioned earlier in this thread that merit aid comes later, doors anyone know when? And if DS didn't make honors college, does that mean he won't get any merit aid? TIA

When DC went 2 years ago they had sessions by majors, some swag, and tours.
I remember sessions in March and April, but DS might not have been quick enough to notice any Feb opportunities.
If your DC is still deciding as the May 1 deadline approaches, I highly recommend Maryland Day in late April. DS wandered campus with a group of high school friends and that sealed the decision.

UH has the best dorms. But, the program is nbd. My kid dropped it second year to focus on their major. They had 58 credits going in, so most of their classes were in their major. Plus, DC is dual majoring in STEM, and the UH classes would've slowed down the 3 year graduation trajectory they wanted to achieve. They are also doing a +1 masters.

Think UMD likes the OOS income from NOVA. My kid's FCPS HS probably sends 3-5 each year. He loves it there.

Correct. So many high stats kids applying to the same small group of majors. They are absolutely compared to one another. Relatively small differences in stats or LORs can make or break an application in that context.

+1 On a random visit to UMD not long ago (not an admissions tour), I thought the students were incredibly NICE. Didn't expected that vibe at a big state school, was very impressed by it.
