Sorry, I really love UVA but there is a huge difference between UVA and Georgia Tech when it cones to Engineering. That being said, and I tell everyone this...make the choice that makes most financial sense to your family. Congrats on two great choices.

Save for graduate school. In state for undergrad if she also thinks it’s a good fit.

Younger DS was accepted to Michigan, UVA, and Georgia Tech for engineering and ultimately chose Georgia Tech. I also have another DS at UVA majoring in CS and both of them genuinely love their schools. For my older DS, who isn’t as STEM-focused, UVA has been the right fit. For my younger DS, who is a strong STEM student, Georgia Tech has been a great match — he’s thriving academically while balancing work and play, and he’s already involved in research and a Vertically Integrated Project as a freshman.

One thing I’ve noticed is that my DS at Georgia Tech spends more time with out-of-state and international students compared to my DS at UVA. Many of these GT students seem extremely driven and high-achieving (which makes sense given the low acceptance rate), and that environment has been very motivating for him. The key at Georgia Tech, from what I can see, is really about finding your community and building strong friendships.

kid got into all public for engineering, including Banneker key scholarship, deciding btwn gtech, umich and umd as will be free or at least half covered

How is this even a question? Obviously Georgia Tech for engineering.

My kid was between ND, NU, UT-Austin and GT. Became sure about Engineering and chose GT. Extremely happy there . UVA is a great school too. Both great schools and can't go wrong with either. Good luck with your decision.

A top 25 school has the same outcomes as T10 engineering schools, that's why I posted the salaries. It has little to do with location because Emory CS grads also make more than GT CS grads. The difference is prestige, the reason GT grads can't get jobs outside the south is because the degree isn't as portable as a UVA or Emory degree. They're more likely to be stuck in the south with lower salaries. This isn't new information. If UVA costs less then it's the obvious choice, if they cost the same it's still the obvious choice.

Georgia Tech is significantly stronger than both UVA and Emory in computer engineering and engineering overall. UVA is clearly stronger than Emory in computer science and is generally a better institution.

Um no, GT is stronger in engineering it is not more prestigious overall. And also no, Emory is the most prestigious of the 3. Is why when comparing major for major is has the highest salary and highest test scores.

Emory is ranked higher across multiple reputable rankings not just USnews. Major for major emory has a higher salary, Emory has better outcomes for the most prestigious companies in America. Emory has better grad school outcomes as well. Not even sure how Emory was included in this conversation, but some of you are obsessed with trying to knock this school down a beg and its still not working after all these years.
