This is an interesting development. Colombia said they wouldn’t take back their own citizens so Trump is enacting tariffs and other measures.
Personally, I think this is a great move. It is the responsibility of the host nation to repatriate their citizens. I do not understand why Colombia won’t welcome their own people back.
They don’t have any issues taking their migrants back. They are demanding they are returned on civilian flights like humans.
To me, that’s a fair ask.
Something to consider if you care about consumer prices...

Yes, these people literally broke our laws. And they aren’t American citizens. We don’t owe them anything. At any point they could have left our country willingly or paid for their own flights. Or their country could have. But they didn’t want to. So too bad.

“Upon learning of the situation, President Lula ordered that a Brazilian Air Force (FAB) aircraft be mobilised to transport the Brazilians to their final destination, in order to ensure that they could complete their journey with dignity and safety,” the justice ministry said.

Brazil has informed Rubio that should this happen again the flight crew will be arrested and detained for violating the civil rights of Brazilian citizens. Lula is seriously pissed.
And really he won't care about threats of tariffs. He'll just sell soy, oil, steel, coffee, sugar, etc. to China. He already proved he will stand up to US bullying when he opened the commodities markets to transactions based on yuan and not just dollars and reais. Pissed Biden off with that.
Brazil is free to lease Gulfstreams to take back their illegal citizens. But it's unreasonable to object to the US using C-130s. At the very least, the US should be billing Brazil for the trouble. If Brazilians want to pay for a comfortable plane with meal service for their illegal migrants, they certainly can.
You realize there are MOUs in place right? But Brazil didn’t object to the use of military aircraft. They objected to their citizens being in handcuffs and ankle chains. They objected to their citizens being beaten onboard that flight. They objected to their citizens not being given water (or food).
Trump is welcome to do so again. But Brazil will arrest and detain the American flight crew. They will try them and jail them for violating the criminal laws of the country. In this case, it would have been 24 Americans. And they will begin requiring that all of these crew members have valid passports and, beginning April 10, visas. Otherwise they will be detained and deported. And the plane impounded until a lawful flight crew goes and gets it.
What Trump and his minions, like you, don’t get is that people won’t put up with the disrespect. Enough tariffs and the US will find itself very alone in this world. The “third world” as you like to call them, has a lot of experience dealing with hardship. Unlike pansy-a**es like you.
Wasn't a military aircraft, per the article I read. It was probably a leased aircraft. The people on board are criminals being repatriated to their country, hence the restraints. The safety of the crew and other passengers are more important in this situation. It makes sense that those working the flight should be subject to the same requirements of international crews stopping in Brazil.
But overall, you sound unhinged.
88 people on board. Not one was convicted of a crime. Not one. Unlike your Orange Leader. Once they hit Brazilian airspace they are bound to follow Brazilian laws. They did not. Full stop.
If you have proof that anyone of them has been convicted of a crime (like Trump), please post your proof. And remember that these people were not part of Trump’s sweep. These people either self-deported or are being deported for visa violations. Fine. I am all in favor of deporting people who violate immigration laws. But do so with dignity.
It will be a wake-up call for Trump supporters when their sons, daughters, nieces and nephews end up detained and deported. You know, the 20-somethings traveling about and overstaying their visas? You raise holy hell if your kid ended up “detained” for 7 months before being deported in cuffs and chains just because they over-stayed their visas. With an estimated 100,000 Americans living illegally in Columbia, could be a lot of people waking up surprised.
I'd suggest a review of US policies governing the transportation of illegal aliens. That will help you understand what governs who is restrained, and access to food, water, and the restroom. If there were deviations from these practices, then that needs to be addressed.
I know our immigration system is overwhelmed. It seems people here without valid paperwork like to roll the dice and hope that our system overlooks them.
And hey, if Americans are living elsewhere without proper paperwork, get detained, and are held awaiting court dates, expulsion, etc., then that's on them.
