Are the VDA feeder teams typically so far behind the pack heading into U13, or does VDA have an unusual challenge with the 2013 year?
I’m surprised by Rev’s ranking.
“Behind the pack” in a ranking. Does that matter? Not a VDA parent but wondering why anyone would use an app to pick their DD’s team.
Talk to the coach, go to a practice, go to ID sessions.

I must have missed the part of PP’s message saying they were using the app to pick their DD’s team.

The 2013G team is solid too (definitely top 5 in DMV, maybe top 3), but will its best players stay for the GA program or move to an ECNL club?
Any views on the GA coaching staff? Are they teaching something other than typical DMV kickball?
The SYC 2013 team ranks among the top three in the DMV region. They recently traveled to Florida for the GA East Regionals and had a fantastic experience. With the recent changes in the GA and the positive momentum building, the 2013s SYC team are expected to stay together, similar to the successful 2012 SYC team. Furthermore, all SYC teams from U9 to U12 are currently among the best in the DMV.
What types of players fit into their system? Any particular gaps that need to be filled? Where do the GA teams train?
Girls that are bigger and faster than everyone else at age 7 and have already started developing themselves. Much like most younger teams that are good (winning).
So they play kickball too? Is McLean the only 2013G team in the area that isn’t all about big and fast?
EVERY team does this at big tournaments/important matches. It's very easy to play out the back when you're far superior to the other team, but when push comes to shove, this always happens. Also, why is this a bad thing? You should have different strategies for different opponents.
My DD’s coach will not allow the GK or defenders to play the ball over the midfield. It looks great when they’re playing lesser teams and it’s brutal on the defenders when playing significantly better teams, but they don’t stop trying. Instead, they lose the game and get better at building out. I cannot remember a single keeper punt all fall.

generally a solid build out includes distribution to midfield. Not GK to back line then long ball to wing or striker. As they get older, teams that move together utilize a midfielder who distributes, create more scoring opps.Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:mclean plays kickball as well.Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anyone considering/Trying out SYC 2013GA for next year. I know right!! Everyone claims to play out of the back until they come up against a team that is applying pressure, and then all of a sudden it's big kicks out of the back and anywhere will do... Or maybe some of these parents on here don't really know what it means to play out of the back. It's not really playing out of the back if your GK passes to your outside back and then they just hoof it up the field.
You say “hoof” it so I’m assuming you mean just smash the ball. Is it still playing out of the back if the GK passes to an outside back and the outside back kicks it over the top to the forward to hold the ball? Or kicks it over the top for the forward to run on to? Is it all about the idea of the outside back or do just want them to pass 10 yards and try to play through every team?
Yep. I think that comment was in response to some Mclean parent claiming superiority in play. They are as guilty of this style as any other team. It just doesnt work well once a team recruits fast players on back line. Then team resort to flopping because they cant win ball.Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:mclean plays kickball as well.Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anyone considering/Trying out SYC 2013GA for next year.
