Not necessarily GMU. They are even offering an easier pathway to admissions for students from some Arlington HSes with a 3.25 GPA or over.

VT has gotten harder to get into though.

GMU has a program for admission at APS schools with a certain percentage of FARMs students. The idea is to make it easy for first generation college kids to have a path way to an in-state college, that is local so they can cut down on costs. I would not be surprised that the program spreads into FCPS.

International students pay full tuition and they've allocated quotas

No where on the UVA admissions site does it say, or even imply, AP us history is a requirement.

Plus I am sure all the international students have not done AP Us history, but they still get in.

Well I guess we will take our chances or settle for JMU or VCU then. My kid isn’t going to kill himself taking 15 APs. He’ll take a couple junior year and senior year.

College is merely a convenient marker for employers to differentiate people with certain backgrounds and base skillsets.

And for many white collar jobs it's not enough, you need a post-bachelor degree of some sort.

I graduated from FCPS about a decade or so ago, went to UVA, and now have a Kindergartner in FCPS so I feel somewhat "qualified" to answer lol. I tried to take every AP course available to me, which included AP History (World, US, Gov), Science (Chem + Physics), Math (Calc), English (Lang +Lit), and electives (Spanish + Psych). I do think AP US was the hardest course I took, and also the one that best prepared me for UVA.

At the time, all college admissions and counselors emphasized that rigorous course load was important, and from my personal experience it seemed to ring true when admissions season rolled around.

My senior is working on his UVA application right now and every admissions counselor and representative he has talked to at UVA has talked about course rigor being the #1 criteria of admission. We have also been told that Legacy status also doesn't really mean much which would help us as my son's dad is an alum.
